4Runner Floorboard Rust Repair

Hello everyone! A few months ago I managed to pick up a nice 88 4runner. It has a nice swap from an '04 Tacoma and runs solid! Practically rust free, except for the pesky...

Rusty Drivers floor board. The saving grace is the owner gave me a replacement floorboard with the 4Runner! I have never done any kind of welding and cutting. Should I try and tackle the job myself? I've watched videos and read into it, but I'm not too confident. I also will probably have to cut and weld some sheet metal for the sides of the floor board that run into the firewall. The rust isn't too bad there. Any guidance? Otherwise the entire truck is rust free, with an extremely solid frame.

Floor repair is probably one of the easiest rust repairs. Easy to get to, easy to cut out the bad and easy to hide the welds if they are ugly--like mine!

Here is a pic of my drivers side after the patches:

And after a couple of coats of herculiner:

Where in Florida are you? If you are anywhere near Tallahassee I would be glad to try and help.

Never done it, but I see a lot of guys who do this stuff for a living recommend using 3M metal bond instead of welding.

KidV is right about the 3M stuff. Although I think that is better for complete floor panels. Is your rust that bad or just some holes?

Is it Flintstone style yet???? LOL
