I've been waiting over a year for the first real snow for the 4Runner.
Well, yesterday we got 4" of wet, heavy, crappy snow with a little rain and sleet mixed in for good measure (and it will all melt today since it is supposed to be 47 degrees). No pics, however, because we still haven't bought a digital camera.
4Runner ran fine through it, some slippage with was probably caused by the slushy conditions more than anything else. After all the posts on the problerms with Dunlop AT20's, I was worried about how it would perform in relatively bad conditions.
We passed by lots of front-wheel drive cars, 4WD pickups, etc., that were on the side of the street. Hills -- going up or down -- were not a problem, either. Basically, slow, steady, and careful won the day.
On some of the empty streets, it gave me a chance to test the antilock brakes and skid control. Now I have some experience with them when I need them.
After we got home, I took the Camry out (probably the only 97 model in Arkansas with traction control) and it was slipping worse than the 4Runner, even though the Camry has Michelin Pilots which have always done well for us on snow -- never needed to install chains with them.
Overall, very pleased with how it performed.
