4Runner makes it Happen..or a GX?

So I just got an REI catalog and opened it up to a cool white truck in the picture.
Thought that looks like a 3rd Gen Runner.
Flipped a couple more pages and see this.
I was right...at least I think I am. Or is it a GX?
It’s where the hatch hinges are that has me questioning myself.
Either way I’d love to do that trip.

10 years ago, the 'cool' truck for such promo material was the mid-1980's Land cruiser FJ-60. I guess the mantle has been passed, and trucks from the mid-90's are cool now.

This is definitely a 3rd gen, I noticed it immediately when I open the page. The hipsters in Seattle finally realized their Subarus just aren't cutting it. That or they ran out of spare head gaskets. I've been in the NW climbing, mt. biking, and BC skiing scene for a while now. Old Toyota 4x4s have been the standard tool in the PNW mountains. The younger generation moving to the area are starting to catch on and making them stylish. Old 4x4 toyota vans are also selling for ridiculous pricing in the Portland/Seattle area.

REI and Eddie Bauer always seem to have some cool older 4x4's in their catalogs. EB uses a lot of 1st gen Broncos, IH Scouts and 1st gen Blazers ( my fav !) along w/ 60 and 80 series Yotas.

This makes me cringe. I've loved 4Runners forever (back when I had a Vega!) and just when I get one, everyone jumps on board.
Like when I had my first Airstream (Safari) 16 years ago and paid like $3500 for it. Now - no fricking way - same thing is like $15000 and that's cheap.
