4Runner Memory Clarification

All,

This is my first post here on the forum. Wife and I are going to be starting a family within the next 6 months and I'm cross-shopping the 4Runner and the GX.

I just wanted to clarify the memory features in the 4Runner. Do only the seats have memory? I know the GX has seat/mirror/steering wheel memory.

The rib and I have very different seating positions/mirror settings when driving and seeing as this will be a family car, it'll be a pain to switch every day so a full suite of memory functions is really important.

Does this leave me no choice between the two trucks?

you are going to decide how to spend $40K-$65K based on whether the seats, mirrors and steering wheel can move on their own? A job that takes ten seconds max? Really?

Only the Limited 4Runner has memory seats, it doesn't have memory mirrors. I think what others are pointing to is that if features like this are really decision points you might want to be looking at a different type of vehicle where you could get a lot more features for less $. The 4Runner is a niche vehicle with offroad capabilities - if you really don't need them you could get something else that will drive better, drink less gas and provide more luxury for the same money. You certainly can't go wrong with the GX if you need both worlds and have the budget.
 
I'm actually looking at used vehicles.

Cooled seats are another plus down here in TX that the GX has. Just curious as to what distinguishes the two vehicles.

You are correct, the Limited only has seat memory, the steering wheel and mirrors must be adjusted manually. You should check out the features of a loaded Highlander, it might have more of what you're looking for.

Edit: Also, the Limited has ventilated seats (I've heard people argue that this is different than "cooled seats," but it seems to cool my butt down just fine).

A little too expensive still. Budget is about $28k, handy with tools so a high mileage auto isn't a big deal. I'd get a 200/LX if they were cheaper.

Oh man... that battle was lost on the wife before it began. A minivan would suit us but since she wants an SUV, I figure I'd get her a body-on-frame truck and not a sliding door-less crossover.

Thanks, the Highlander is on my list. We're still in the early stages of shopping right now.

Only the driver seat has memory. No memory on the passenger seat. For my wife and I this is enough. She only has to adjust the inside rearview mirror down a little when she drive. The same steering wheel and outside mirrors setting work for both of us. Our seat position is completely different and it is nice to push a button to get back to your perfect setting.

GX will win over the warden better than the 4R in the long run for creature comforts.

the only vehicle I know that Toyota has cooled seats is the lexus LS series. they actually run a tube/channel from the A/C to the seats which cools a hell of a lot better than the vented seats.

vented seats take the ambient air under the seats and run it thru a fan inside the seats.

and the vented seats in the LE are not that great during heat waves or even running the a/c on long trips, especially on the lower back. the legs I can feel the air, but that's not what I am complaining about. the lower back zone sucks more that blows :)


what I would really love is the special heater in the GS series. they have an option to install a electric heater (High-intensity interior heater) to supplement the regular heater until it gets up to temp.

Correct, I understand the difference. Then again, convection is convection and every little helps in 100*F heat.
 
Get a BMW X5 for $150K with all the bells and whistles... It even has a night vision devise(REALLY!! who uses that!). But kidding aside, I think you will be more happier if you go with the highlander (limited). It has all the features that you are looking for... just my $.02

Your 4runner has that. If you look in the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment, there is a relay labeled "PTC No.1" and a 30 amp fusible link labeled "30A PTC HTR NO.3"

Turns out the highlander doesn't have a memory function until 2014s, which are still above budget also.
 
I think you will be hard pressed to find a decent 4R with low miles for your price point with all the bells and whistles you want. They retain a higher resale value, but this is due to reliability, they just last longer.

I don't doubt you, if we can't afford it we'll have to do something else.

I have, solid vehicles and also on the radar. I like the MDX a little more if we were to go the luxury crossover route but both are good.
