4Runner Saved my life

I was traveling south on a freeway in Columbus, Ohio and got side swiped off the road. I was sent through the guard rail and flipped the 4Runner and rolled down a hill. I crawled out the broken sunroof on my own and got myself to the E.R. I only have a few bangs and bruises.

Thank you Toyota!

Holy #### that looks like a serious accident. How do you mean got swiped off the road? Glad to hear that you were not seriously hurt! Is the insurance giving you a new T4R?

:wow: :jaw drop: Glad you're ok!!

Now that the most important part is clarified....that you're in good health, I just have to throw a prediction out there: someone will be asking about salvaging parts before this thread closes.

Seriously though, how did the airbags and the rest of the safety features work? Obviously pretty decently since you're doing fine??

Very good to be able to walk away from something like that. I listen to the petty complaints on here (rattles) and (dust) and when something like this happens and proves that the 4Runner is tough and safe it makes all those little things unimportant. Glad you are ok! Getting a new one?

Holy Sh!t. I am surprised and GLAD you walked away with minor injuries. Sorry about your truck, though. What happened to the guy that swiped you? Did he stop, or continue on? On the bright side, YOU GET A NEW 4RUNNER!!!

Owch!!! Glad you are ok, looks like the 4R held strong! I too am curious what you thought of the safety features (but I have a feeling everything happened so fast that you did not know what was happening until it passed)

Oh, the cross bars look untouched, I call them! ;) (kidding)

That guard rail looks more trashed than your SR5. Amazing.
Any more photos? Glad you weren't hurt.
4Runner 1, guard rail 0.

Impressive, a fortunate man indeed. I've had patients killed when their head hit the side window and or post in rollovers. These new side air bags really make a difference. Glad for the good outcome.

re:

The other guy came screeching across 2 lanes as I was in the far right and hit my front left side.

It did happen pretty fast but the rollover seemed slow motion.

The side airbags felt like a big pillow for my head.

I will absolutely be getting a new 4Runner!

As far as other safety features, I didn't have time to brake because I was in front of the pack in regards to traffic and did not see it coming.

Toyota just got an owner for as long as I can still drive!

+1.

I too would like to hear your thoughts on the air bags, etc. I'm betting you have some nice shoulder belt bruises.

Edited, it seems that your side bags did go off. I'm curious how loud all that stuff is when it fires off. I've also been in a side swipe, roll over, in my 3rd gen. I had to climb out the moon roof also. It's also the reason every car I've owned since my 3rd gen, has been a Toyota 4runner. I'm very glad to hear you weren't seriously injured, property is easily replaced, people are not.

Thanks for the pic.

Left shoulder bruising is by far the worst side affect...........so far.

I don't remember hearing anything that loud as the side airbags deployed, but me destroying the guard rail was probably loud enough.

Damn glad your ok, gotta watch these Ohio drivers to say the least.

Glad you're fine, and reassured by how well your Runner protected you. Hope the other driver was OK, too. But what was up with his driving? Drunk? On (or off) his meds? Excessive speed? Fell asleep? Couldn't stand driving his Ford Explorer or Jeep Grand Cherokee any longer?
