Hey guys I recently finished rebuilding my 22re, Installed it and when i tried to start it for the first time it turned over. But it was a no go, so i tried to start it again only this time it didnt even turn over. All it did was make a single clicking noise. Sounded like it was coming from the starter. I replaced the starter and that did nothing. Replaced the battery and still the same click. Later that day i tried it again and to my amazement it started. Without doing anything it started. What do you guys think it could be? heres a link to it trying to start

Sounds like a weak connection to starter. I would check all connections and make sure they are all clean.

When these trucks start doing the no-crank thing, it's generally a combination of worn-out ignition wiring, old starter relay (if it has one - my '86 doesn't), and old starter. Fixing one thing seems to lead to something else going bad faster, and you can end up fighting it for years (seriously - I've seen threads on Yotatech where guys have gone through 5 or 6 starters).

Make a jumper wire long enough to reach form the battery to the starter, clamp it to the starter solenoid, and tuck it out of the way in the engine compartment. The next time your truck won't start, turn the key to on and touch the loose end of that wire to the positive battery stud. If it reliably cranks when you do that, then you've got the gremlins, and a hotshot will fix it.

when you say starter solenoid do you mean the stud that the positive battery cable goes to or the smaller one that the wire from the harness plugs into? I tried what 4crawler said with the key in the on position and in neutral jump the stud that is coming out of the starter to + to the small plug on the starter. When i did that the starter just clicked but it did not crank over. Did i do that right?

I had a similar problem for almost 10 years. My 3.0 would not start after it got hot and so I would need to wait until it cooled before it would start again. Finally, a few months ago I put in a starter relay. Its reliably started since - even on hot Texas summer days.

The solenoid is the smaller one that the harness wire goes to - if it's just clicking when you jumped it, and you're sure you made a solid connection, then it sounds like time to crack open that little solenoid and clean up/replace the contacts inside on the plunger.

That, or you've got bad connections on your battery and the starter just isn't getting enough juice, so make sure your positive cable and *all* the ground connections are clean and tight.

So I feel very dumb right now but am also very relieved. I was gona check all the ignition electrical components like csc ignition switch starter relay etc. Started with changing out the battery and a fresh battery started her right up. I thought i turned the key all the way off but i left it on accessory all night. Guess that was enough to drain the battery. I appreciate all of your comments, and help. Now i just gotta get this thing to pass smog and there will be one more yota out there.

Vacuum pull

Ok so i got the thing fired up now im having an issue with the vacuum in the crankcase. I pulled the dipstick out the other day to check oil level and when i did i felt suction. It was kinda hard to pull the dipstick out and made a suction noise. Here is a link, The pcv valve is new and installed correctly. 22re oil pressure - YouTube
