4Runner ..to buy or not to buy??

Hi, I'm new and rethinking of getting a 2011 4Runner SR5... I have been working months with dealers to find a 4Runner with the selected options I like. Because of the unfortunate situation in Japan, it may not be possible for it to be built, dealers say maybe in a years time or not at all. The other thing that got me to rethink a 4Runner, is how the gas prices just soared!

Well, one dealer got back with me on a 4Runner with the following options:
- Silver SR5 4x4
- AM/FM/USB/BlueTooth/Wheel Audio Controls
- Power Tilt/Slide Moonroof w/120 outlets
- 8-Way Power Seats
- Fabric 3rd Row Seating
- Carpet Mats

I wanted it real simple. The only thing on that list was the Silver color, 4x4, and AM/FM/USB/BlueTooth/Wheel Audio Controls; in addition to my options, a remote start and alarm. None of the other options I care for. However, because I have been waiting for their search, the price offered to me is 31500.00.. would I be a fool to pass that by?

The other concern I have that leaves me not too excited to purchase one, was the gas price.. how are you current owners doing with the new 4Runner?

That's a super price - especially for 3rd row.

I am happy with my gas mileage, don't wan't to drive a Civic. I get 20 mpg on my average to and from work drive. Was hoping for 18.

Towing gets 12.

21-22 highway trips, but can drop to 17 with lots of urban driving.

Seems fast enough for a heavy SUV and pulls my boat fine.

Paid around 32.6 with leather, no 3rd row. 34K OTD in December.

SUV sales are going to suck with 3.5-4.00 gas. Prices aren't going to go up.

I honestly think that 4Runner is still the best midsize SUV in the price range. I would say - buy - but what else to expect from me - if I didn't like my T4R why would I keept reading this forum ?

I'm getting about 18mpg; which is fine w/ me. If you don't need an off-road capable SUV and you're already having doubts related to gas milage, maybe you should look at a CUV instead.

I just got my sr5 4runner,and I'm just loving it way better then the 08 highlander,the 4runner is much better to drive,and remember speed kills so who cares about pick up,also what I've noticed is its true when they say accelerate slowly you do save quite a bit of fuel.The one factor that sealed the deal was safety I will not economize on safety no friggen way cheers.

Gas prices suck, but it comes down to what you need and what you're willing to pay for what you want. Coming from a 31mpg MKV GTI, my 4Runner costs me about $200 more per year in fuel and insurance* expenses. The gas cost is up by about $600/year @15k miles/year, but the insurance is down by $400/year. I'll probably still buy a Prius or Lexus CT200h for my wife later this year because we're starting a family and her MINI isn't terribly practical for a kid, we'd like something with good gas mileage just to be less wasteful, and to keep some miles off the 4Runner since I intend on getting 10+ years out of it.

* If you factored in maintenance and repairs on that piece of crap GTI, it is actually cheaper to operate the 4Runner!
