4runner TRD Pro

Lifted the front end today with a set of Toytec Baja Spacers. Toyota dealer performed the install and they verified with Toyota National that is will not void warranty. It's spec'd as a 1" inch spacer. It basically achieves the TRD Pro prototype appearance. I'll post picks sometime this weekend.

Did it have to be installed by Toyota to not void warranty? Please post pics!

I have a really good memory, be careful, lol. I didn't mean to creep you out.

That is a great area you live in, if you have to live near LA. SP is a super nice place, especially for raising kids. Residential real estate prices are out the roof.
700k for a 1k sqft craftsman with a buggy shed for a garage...pricey.

Hope your TRD is serving you well. Any interesting things you've noticed now that you've had it for a few months?

no worries, was just curious since i didn't think i had mentioned it.

so far I'm a bit happier with the trd suspension than i thought id be. i was ready to change the suspension, which i know some think is blasphemous. Ill eventually end up doing it but i want to leave it alone for now and see how far i can take (gear lead, terrains etc) it all stock. but overall I'm very happy with it compared with my 2012 tacoma, night and day in ride quality, interior etc.

no it does not have to be installed by Toyota for your warranty to be good. You can pretty much install most things without voiding most things in your warranty. just be prepared to stand up and know your rights. you run into problem when you get into major mods such as cutting and changes on things. still doesnt void the warranty but may void some systems attached to these mods.

The wait is over!

Just drove home in my new super white TRD pro. Overall the fit and finish is really nice, and the entune is way nicer than the stock nav/head unit I had in the 2012 tundra I had previously. The only thing I miss is tapping the accelerator and passing cars like they're standing still going up the mountain passes. But I knew the drop in power would take some getting used to, and the increased mpg certainly helps. I hope to post some pics and start a build/adventure thread soon.

Would love to see it too! Been looking into that as well. Please shoot some pics soon!!! Would also like to know dealer cost in a PM if cool with you. No worries if not. Thanks!

I don't think those are the stock Pro rims. They are black and do have TRD center caps, but the rims themselves look a bit different to me.

I'm pretty sure they are stock TRD Pro wheels. I'm using my iPad and zoomed in on 'em. Generally speaking though, I'm still kind of confused why they chose to use a 7" wide wheel for the Pro.

Are we sure those are 315s? Look more like 285s at best.

Not sure who said it but I heard toyota is making a 17x8 TRDP wheel? anyone know if this is true? Not buying the 17x7 crap which are skinnier than my current wheels if so....

just curious... why is everyone going wider on the wheels/tires?

is it for better off road ? if so, what kind of off road are you aiming for with wider tires? unpaved roads in general of course but is the more advance stuff where a tire matters rock, mud, sand?

or is it because they generally look better?

I only ask because this is always a good subject to hear opinions on the matter since its such a subjective thing (imho). personally I've always gone skinnier on the tire and smaller diameter on the wheel and larger diameter on the tire. for example, my land rover right now has 33x10.5x15 tires while many love to run 32x12.5x16 . i run mostly around California/Utah trails wish are rocky with packed sand at best. Mud and soft deep sand aren't really prevalent enough (unless you seek them on purpose) to warrant a wider tire for the float effect and the skinny vs wide debate on snow.... again i prefer skinny, but i know many prefer wide. My "science" behind it is more rubber to flex and soften the ride on rough roads ( washboard/small rock road) with 15-16 rims and easier to maneuver the truck through tricky stuff with the skinnier tire while the larger diameter makes it better to go over stuff (think 29r bicycles).. the wider the tire the more you're wrestling the thing and when you're really flexing, the bigger the tire the less room in the wheel well to tuck into it.
on this 4runner i was pleasantly surprised to find 7" rims on it but i read so many guys wishing for wider rims.

i gotta believe its nothing more than aesthetics being that so many stick spacers on for that reason alone
re: wider wheels, it's because when you move up to a 285/70-17 (~33") tire a 7.5" rim width is typically the minimum recommended by the manufacturer.

yeah, thats part of my question. why are some moving up to the wider tire?

aesthetics or use? and if use i like hearing why some go that way. aesthetics i have no problem with that at all, i chose the TRD pro over a trail or SR5 for that reason more than any myself so I'm not going to call the kettle black.

yeah, without derailing into the subjectives of performance, after lifting, and raising the vehicle's COG, a wider stance and contact patch can give something back to the stability equation. and not for nothing, but there aren't very many 17" tall+skinny "pizza cutter" tires available, but there are gobs of 285s.

if you're planning to go with a 255/80-17 on your 7" Pro rims you're good to go, so perfect setup right out of the box.

how much of that is demand/marketing/aesthetics vs what's best? not saying that sit, just asking if that's the case.

no that it translates the same way since most off orders would agree, but as in IFS vs solid axels. yes, IFS rides much nicer on pavement, but...

"best" is subjective; pros & cons to each. fact is, the tire manufacturers have made "pizza cutters" a niche via limited availability.

of course, i have no idea what their rationale might be for this fact. i do think going up from a 265/70 to a 285/70 is reasonably proportional scaling, whereas going from a 265/70 to a 255/80 is sorta anamorphic scaling, and likely not as universally appealing from a purely aesthetic perspective.

personally, i kinda like the pizza cutters, but when you lift, that tall/skinny does look kinda rickety tucked way in under there with the OEM backspacing. so then it's either wheel spacers to spread the stance out, or a new set of wheels... and if you're gonna spring for new wheels, well, it opens the whole question up for debate again entirely.

Would love to see pics of the lift. Was thinking of doing the same thing
