4runner TRD Pro

Are you implying we're not beautiful and unique snowflakes? NOOOOoooooOOOOOooOOOOOO!

Your 4R is definitely more unique than any trdp snowflake out there... Great vehicle btw, can't wait to see how the LT works out.

I believe a lot of people are missing the point here... if a manufacturer is not willing to number a vehicle (#1 of 500 for example) then it's not technically a limited production run vehicle.

Toyota explicitly states "OVER" not "Limited To" in its marketing because they knew if they attached a number to production people would misread it and feel like they were getting something special and also it provides them the flexibility to produce more than the number... so if the public wants more than 3,000 for example, you can order it and they will build it and take your money.

My guess is there's quite a lot more in circulation each year than 3,000 in the US, probably more like 10,000 or 15,000. I have no evidence to support this number other than the language of the previous post and the fact that Toyota obviously saw the sales and marketing genius of attaching the "TRD" logo to a model, which is why we now have a "TRD Offroad" model 4Runner for 2017.

If you think the TRD Pro model is the most limited produced 4Runner ever, you're only kidding yourself. This doesn't mean no one should buy it... heck, I may buy one, but I'll know what I'm buying when I do and not going to let some salesman feed me a line of BS about a vehicle I know more about than he does from every aspect.

Well not sure where to start here with your made up numbers. Per Toyota they sold 97,000 total 4runners in the USA in 15: December 2015 Sales Chart | Corporate

Let's talk facts:

I worked at Toyota of Santa Barbara and we got 2. We had at least 100 of the rest of them and every other dealer in the state had a limited amount for 2015 and 2016 so far. No dealers would trade for them nor sell them for less than MSRP due to the demand.

Now, if you want to read into Toyota stating "more than 3000" you are absolutely right on and why wouldn't they? It was such a success they renamed the trail series.

But let's talk more facts- In 2015 they built 3400: 2015 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro First Drive ? Review ? Car and Driver

2016 is not over yet but I highly doubt using my keen sense of business 101 skills that it was much more than 3500 or otherwise pricing of the used and new ones would have dropped tremendously (not to mention actual availability). Have you looked for a used or new one lately? Fairly hard to actually find one close to you I bet. Does this remind some people of the specialized Tacomas and FJs? Well yessiree bob it does. And are those holding their value?

Their TRD Off Road and Sport Tacomas have been a huge success for a decade and they still barely make enough. Another thing to consider is the 2018's will be a remake so I highly doubt they are going to "flood the market" with TRD PROs the last year. They certainly didn't do it with the 2015 Tacomas. The TRD Pros are also made in Japan so there is quite a lead time and why would they all of a sudden re-align their factories to produce 15% TRD PROs the final year?

Well, I think you get my point and we certainty won't know until 2016 is over how many they built but making up numbers based on nothing is just, silly.

That being said I don't think it's the rarest 4runner ever nor do I care. I do care about resale 9 years from now and I think I'll be that much better vs any of the other models and in the meantime I'll enjoy a pretty off road-worthy vehicle that is also comfortable.

No hard feelings but let's not make up things. Let us know if you buy one and what you pay as that is the true indication of the market. There was one guy here claiming he was getting $2500 off and he just...disappeared.

Maybe the 4runner TRD Bros whacked him;)

Hey guys new to the forum. Have a Quicksand TRD Pro on the way that hits port on August 15th and i've already got parts rolling in for it. I've been following some of the mods other people have been doing and already ordered some HID lights from Xenon Depot got the 4300 phillips bulbs. Also have an ARB differential breather coming, the black 4runner overlay for the emblems on the back, and some husky liners. I feel like i got a decent buy on it as i got about $1500 off MSRP.

I got my 2016 for $2298 below MSRP + matching 5th wheel + cargo tray. Not too far off the $2500 number you quoted above. :eyebrows:

You need to understand that in CA he is correct. There is a lot of money here and people willing to pay. I havent seen one pro below msrp around here. A lot are marked up 3-$5k from msrp. There are 3, 2016 TRDP on craigslist posted from dealers that are arriving soon and they are $48,633 -$49628 quicksand and MGM.

While I know he is posting from CA, I did not see that particular comment as area specific. Just offering my 2 cents...

I understand and agree. I just noticed he said he's in Santa Barbara and he is correct from what I've seen in CA. Glad you got a super deal on yours, we pay extra for everything here :mad2:

there's no need to "re-align their factories" because they're really basic Trail Editions that get the TRD Pro bits added upon arrival at port.

Just found a posting for any who are looking for a white TRDP 4runner in CA. Invoice price it seems. Arriving mid September up for deposit now.

2016 TOYOTA 4RUNNER 4WD ___ TRD PRO ___WHITE __________NEW

John Coffaney @ Freeman is LEGIT. Myself and a few other members have worked with him (I'm in SoCal) and did basically the same deal for TRD Pros earlier this year. If you want in- contact him ASAP. If you have any specific questions on the transaction etc, shoot me a PM glad to help

I suppose it's a regional thing.... because dealers in PA routinely have them on the lot, up for sale... at any one time I can find one in the state that doesn't have a hold (not pre-ordered) on it and usually 2 or 3.... I just moved from Central PA and the Toyota dealer there got in 4 in 2015 and 3 so far this year before we recently moved. 2 of the 3 this year were not sold when they arrived. This isn't a high volume or big dealership, their inventory is typically below 60 total units....(not sure how this happened but I witnessed it) so yeah, maybe it's a regional thing.
Last month when I was scoping out the quicksand TRD at the dealer in central PA the salesman came out to me and offered me 1500 under msrp without before we even exchanged pleasantries... My point is that my expereince is that they're looked at as another 4Runner in this region.

I am not bashing the Pro model, heck I like it and will probably buy one (If I can't find a used LC200 I like at the same price point) but I'll be buying it under msrp and leaving it stock.

You are right about the pa thing, I see them all time time at dealers around here... They don't stay too long but they are there. Right now I have a local dealer that is selling a 2015 with 11k on it for 45k . It does seem in my finding the used ones don't loose their value at all, ad least around here.

They really aren't. Trails don't have softex seats. Trail premiums have moonroofs. Neither has auto headlights. While these are not huge deals for "features," they come out of the factory with these configurations. The cosmetic and suspension stuff added at port is essentially all exterior.

I seriously doubt all that stuff is added at the port. That is major stuff on the TRD. That is done at the factory.

point is that there's no need for Toyota to "re-align its factories" to make more of the Pro. as far as the production line in Japan is concerned, the Pro is just a specifically configured base model Trail Edition.

TRD pro also comes in colors the other models don't, so you saying those are painted at the port too? LOL.
actually, i didn't say that they get painted at port at all (nice straw man), and if you read back through the thread you'll see that what goes into making a Pro (at port) is well documented.

however, if you're the kind of guy that's presented with facts and still insists his opinion is more correct i'm not fool enough to attempt to convince you otherwise.

Like I mentioned before I edited and decided to not argue because you know, everyone on the web is right but people who actually work for Toyota is wrong. I have family that works at the Toyota plant in SA and they have said the hard stuff is not done at port. Suspension, Paint.

I went back in this thread and looked. I saw one picture. I saw no suspension pictures other than the wheels missing. So we honestly don't know that is confirmed.
