Warning-Major Rant Coming.
I had an order in for a Super White TRD Pro with Gullo Toyota in Conroe Texas. I was told that my order had been placed and that my order would be fulfilled from an April production order with a May/June ETA. Like many of you on this site I proceeded with the order but still was on the lookout for an unsold White TRDP that any dealer might have gotten. I talked to a very helpful dealer in North Texas that asked me where I ordered mine from and I told him that it was from Gullo Toyota in Conroe, TX. He told me that he could see every TRDP inbound to dealers in the Gulf States Region and that Gullo had the exact Super White TRDP that I was looking for being delivered the very next day. I immediately call my salesman and ask him about the status of this vehicle and he doesn't even know it's coming in. He calls me back about an hour later and says that it's already presold and that it's (no surprise) a courtesy hold.
Flash forward several days and I still see that this vehicle hasn't moved or been picked up yet. I call my salesman again and tell him that he needs to check with his bosses and see if this person has changed their mind on purchasing this vehicle. Two days ago, my salesman calls me and says you're not going to believe this, but the guy backed out of the deal and my sales manager said I can sell it to you. GREAT! I said, I give him all my information necessary over the phone to secure the vehicle. He tells me that they will immediately get to work on dealer prepping the vehicle to my specifications and yesterday morning they take my deposit and tell me it should be ready by the end of the day. I let the dealer know that I had to work that afternoon and we arranged to have me take delivery of the vehicle first thing Monday morning. Yay! This is finally going to happen! I got my financing all lined up, my trade in appraised and was all ready to go.
Then, yesterday afternoon while I'm at work and can't really talk, my salesman calls me and says "Mr. -----, we have a problem with your vehicle." I'm thinking just something minor with the dealer prep. Nope. My sales manager got confused and thought that I was asking him about selling you a TRD Pro Tundra (I don't think they even have one of those on the lot) and NOT the TRD Pro 4Runner which one of our salesman ordered back in the Fall of last year for his "sister". At this point he offers to either refund my deposit and cancel my order or keep my deposit and order as is with my original delivery of May or June.
Now, I'm trying to process what the hell just happened and weigh all of my options. Am I right in thinking that the sales manager screwed up big time and needs to honor the deal that he made to sell me this vehicle? He gave the go ahead to my salesman sell it to me, I place the deposit to hold it, he somehow realizes that one of his salesman ordered this vehicle for his "sister", who was so excited to get it that she let it sit out back behind the dealership for an entire week. This sales manager basically threw me over for one of his salesmen that I think decided not to buy the thing, thought about it overnight and then decided he wanted it after all. I have bought two other vehicles from this dealership over the past decade and I'm just absolutely incredulous that this could happen and am even considering seeking damages from the dealership at this point. I just want the dealer to honor the deal that we had in place for this vehicle. As far as I'm concerned, if this salesman changed his mind and now wants the vehicle, he can wait for my order to come in in May or June.
I feel completely blindsided by this and don't even want to give this dealer any more of my business, but if I pull out at this point and go with another dealer, I'm afraid it's going to take even longer to get one, if I even can at this point.
Thanks for reading this and letting me rant, any advice is welcome and appreciated.
