Interesting. I've indicated to the rep that is what I wanted to do, but she said all of that will be handled at a later date. I got the impression it was handled locally.

Was wondering if you guys could clear up some questions I had.
First, I am currently leasing a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, the lease is up in June and I am looking for something to finally buy and call my own. Whatever I get, I intend to put anywhere between $10k to $13k down in cash.
After looking around, I decided to settle on the TRD Pro. It has everything I am looking for, and is something I am comfortable with owning for over ten years. My main intention is reliability, and future proofing myself as best I can with a family and children on the horizon.
Now, I've spent a good portion of my day calling different dealerships in the NYC area. Everyone is telling me something different, here are some highlights:
1. "If I put $500 down today, I'd have a 4Runner TRD Pro in 8 weeks."
2. "If I put $500 down, I can end up with waiting for one from 6 weeks to 6 months."
3. "Typically it's a 3 month or more wait"
After reading about 100 pages of thread here it seems that you CANNOT special order one from the factory through a dealer, and that anyone asking for $500 today is basically hedging their bets that they might get one or roll you into a different vehicle. Correct?
Also, I think it's funny to mention that every single sales person I spoke with on the phone today all said the same thing once I mentioned 4Runner TRD Pro - "Are you familiar with that vehicle?" No, I'm not doofus
Regardless, I'm not sure how to proceed. My lease is up the first week of June and cannot do without a vehicle for more than a week or two. What are my options here? Any advice would be helpful.

I pretty much had the same ordeal when i started looking. And to be honest, based on what I was hearing, my timeline went from late Spring to late Jan in putting a deposit down. I've made my phone calls, heard a variety of different answers. It wasn't until I located a salesman who is a friend of a friend, and he laid it out. His dealership is in a metro area and said he probably can't get me one until next year (literally a full 12 months out). He was nice enough to look at the area's inventory sheet and told me a dealership a couple hrs away has one reflecting available. When I called, they said the 3 were spoken for, and was within their next allocation, with expected delivery of early March. I was next in line, and I put my deposit down. Of the 3 cars (2 cements, 1 white), 2 folks dropped out and I was able to get what I wanted. I should get it any day now. My assumption is folks are putting deposits down at multiple dealerships so they probably got the TRDPro elsewhere. My advice is to call the more remote dealerships and ask how many people are on the waiting list. That should indicate a more realistic timeline.

Here is my recommendation. If you order one they will want a deposit. Make sure it is refundable and whatever you sign says its refundable. If you can, put a couple of deposits out there with High Volume dealers. They are more likely to get Pro's in. This will NOT guarantee you one. It all depends on dealer allocation and other orders in front of you.
Secondly pick a radius in miles and go log into Cars.com and set up email alerts for TRD Pro's. Every day when you get the email call the dealers who show one immediately. Most if not all will already be accounted for but you may get lucky and find one that the buyer backed out on. This is exactly how I got mine after having an order with a deposit unfulfilled since November of 2016. The dealer I put the deposit down with was a low volume dealer. Good luck!
Hmm, so I suppose the question I should ask when I call is, "How many people are ahead of me for a TRD Pro if I put a deposit down today?" Then, just go with whoever has the lowest amount with the least amount of markup? This way, if people back out my queue in line is bumped up. Right?
That is the approach I took, although out here (seattle area) all the dealers were offering at MSRP. In my case, there were 3 spoken for, and 2 dropped out for this particular allocation. The question you also want to ask is when is their next allocation (ordering of vehicles). In my case, they would say they are getting vehicles on xxx date, although they won't know until that date if there are any TRDPro or not. I just happened to put my name on the waiting list after their allocation was set for that month. Based on previous threads, some folks had to order out of state then fly out and pick up. Unsure what it is like for your region, but it seems like different regions has different experiences.

Don't be surprised if you can't add it at all. The TRDPs are being built and spec'd with very little input from buyers (or even dealers). Depending on where it is in the build process, it may be too late. It was for me. You can still add port-installed options though.

I put $500 refundable deposits down at multiple dealers in different states. Ended up getting one in Colorado. Called back the other dealerships and got my deposits back. Had some family that were willing to drive the truck to me (thanks!). From when I started contacting dealerships to when I got the truck was about 2 months.

Could be as many as 10 to little as 0. You don't know until you try. I called a dealer and got lucky the guy pulled out and no one was behind him. I had my cement TRD within a week. Before then, I found a white TRD in another dealership in Texas (Amarillo) that was unclaimed in 2 weeks. Before then - I found an unclaimed white one in VA.
I just pulled out of my allocation @ Stevinson Toyota West (Lakewood), call in and they can help you out. Ask for Riley. Maybe they still have it.
Point is - the cars are out there. Lots of posts about unclaimed TRDs in Washington. The hot states seem to be CO and CA. If you genuinely want in and are willing to try, you will get what you want. Good luck.

I was in the same boat - Jeep GC owner. Wass tired of electrical problems. I wanted something to last 10 years plus with little to no issues and finally set sights on the TRD Pro. Mine comes TOMORROW and it was a hassle to find it. I have a great dealer I worked with in Texas... but more importantly my car broker/buddy found it for me. I did give him $500 for the leg work, but well worth it to lock it in and have the truck less than 8 weeks later.
I'll update you on the truck tomorrow. In the meantime - let me know if you want the dealer or the broker. The dealer said he has all his accounted for now...but that could change. Good luck man!

Haha yeah finally but I still have a few more weeks before seeing it.. It's currently sitting in Wyoming. The most untraveled road for transport companies lol.
Fly in pick it up drive it back. Problem solved.
You can ask the dealer to not install the bracket. I requested it and they didn't put it on. However, the bumper does have two small dimples (visible from ~6' away) to help them align it.
