4Runner Trim (Silver)

Well... My dog seems to have gotten the best of the silver painted on the door trim in the back, and has scratched the paint on them pretty badly with very little effort.. Does anyone else have experience with this? I'll probably end up getting it touched up on, but does anyone know if I could get some clear coat applied to prevent this from happening again in the future? This is the area that I'm talking about.

The silver trim is extremely susceptible to scratches, its pretty brutal actually. My dogs were in the back a lot, and I just started covering it with masking tape to ensure it comes off clean. I am never back there, so I don't care if it looks good.
