I have a new baby on the way, which will increase my family size to 3 kids, so I traded in my 4runner for a Tahoe. Just incase anyone is interested in the trade in value of their 4runner or wants to just re-assure themselves that they made a smart purchase, I was going to share what I got for trade in value. Let me just say I was super impressed how well these cars keep their value! I bought my 2011 SR5 new in May 2011 for $30k, the sticker msrp was $34k. For trade in this last month, with 28,000 miles, they gave me $29k, and they listed it as a certified used for $33,500. I figured only $1,000 depreciation in a year and a half wasn't too bad! It was a great car, but 3 car seats in the back wasn't going to work out. Hopefully I'll be able to get one again in a few years, but I'm thinking the trail model.

That's the good thing about Toyota's, I sold a mint 98 Corolla for $5,000. That's B5 Audi money lol, the Tahoe will treat you well though. If its a GMT900 the interior probably isn't as well put together as your T4R but that's typical GM. Just hope you didn't get the optional G80 Eaton locking rear differential because they grenade 10 bolts like its their job.
 
Yes they do hold their value. I got $29k on trade in for my 2010 SR5 which I paid just a smidge over $32k for two years earlier. I traded it in on a 2012 TE...
 
Wait what year are we talking? Almost all tahoes have a cheap plastic rattle filled interior. My friend has a 2005 Z71 and just putting the sun visor up echos through the headliner, and knocking on the dash has a cheap sounding echo too.
 
Just got $16,252 from the INS company on a Vehicle Total Loss for an 04' Limited with over 120k miles on it.

Using that to buy a new 2013 Limited 4x4.
 
Yep, and it's not just 4Runners. I had a Rav4 that was totaled a year into financing and was able to break even thankfully. Stupid red light runners...

Yes. Not a scratch. Other party was in a car and hit the frame. They came out OK as well.

I will say I was shocked when the INS company said my 4Runner was totaled. There was some door damage on the passenger side, but nothing that I would think equaled a total loss. I guess with frame damage it was considered done. Go figure.

I almost got tboned today at an intersection. It is a T intersection so drivers fly through the red light. I always wait a second and look before I go on the green, and this morning a Honda blew right in front of me at 45+- mph.

If I had gone on green I would have taken a hit right into my driver's door.

It was close.

For me, the driver was stopped, facing the other way, and for some ridiculous reason decided to pull out in front of me at the last second as I entered the intersection... uninsured too. :mad2:

I hate to admit it, but I like Tahoes too. I hope it treats you well.
 
Don't expect the same retail value out of the Tahoe when you go to trade in a few years. The huge discounts and incenitives that GM uses to move these just kill resale value. Just like they are offering $9000 off Silverados and you will lose another $5 - $6K when you drive it home, your new truck with a MSRP of $38K is worth $23 - $24K trade in a year. That is the difference in the Toyota business model vs. the GM, Chrysler/Dodge/Ram and to some extent Ford.
 
This is kind of a head scratcher for me too as to why you went for the GM, the current Sequoia is one of the most bad-a$$ vehicles out there. I love the Platinum trim level with the brown leather and that 5.7L V8 is an absolute beast. I really wish the 4Runner could've been had in Platinum with the brown leather and stuff.
 
Because GM has great initial value and despite what many biased Toyota owners would like you to believe they are extremely reliable (trucks and SUV's not cars those suck) mechanically speaking. I've owned more than 1 GM truck that went 200,000 miles and one of them was in my family since it rolled off the assembly line and still is to this date.

Resale value isn't as good as Toyota obviously but it isn't bad. I got dealer trade in (not private party so keep in mind the dealer still wanted to make money off it) for my 2004 Silverado 2LT 4x4 for $12,000. That truck had 80,xxx miles on it and had been in an accident with damages totaling $10,000. If you don't call that respectable resale value then idk what to tell you.
