4Runner vs. 200 series -help!

i love love love my T4R...but if you told me that i could get an LC200 for just a few dollars more...then i would drop the Runners keys on the ground to get to the Cruiser...

new car or not...an LC is THAT much better...

I have both. Currently a built '19 Off Road Premium and a '19 200 series (the '19 replaced a '16)

I love both for much different reasons.

For trips, highway driving, comfort, slide feel, power, etc. the LC hands down. Not even close.

The 4Runner is a great vehicle but there is a reason for the price difference.

Which would you pick and why? Mostly snow use, think overland but not heavy wheeling just mountain climbing, and long trips across country with the dual climate control on. Is the Land cruiser a steal if all checks out ok? Or would you go low miles and lighter on its feet? Not easy!

Let's see if we can keep the 'neither of these' comments to a minimum today, shall we? ��

I'd pick the LC because it's faced all of its depreciation already. In 2-3 years when you're sweating every time you fill up you can sell it for almost what you paid to buy it.

(The LC is also the better rig, but not sure that was your question)

This is exactly why I'm asking the question, I had the same concerns and wanted to get others thoughts on it. I do know the price was about $10k more, but they dropped it. It can be hard to see rebuilds sometimes, the vin didn't turn much up

Prices I'm seeing are dropping pretty fast right now on used cars in general. I'm seeing early LX570's in the $18k range. That's a point where I'm having a hard time not pulling the trigger and also keeping the 4Runner. Mostly resistance from my wife... lol. Otherwise I'd have already done it. The LX would be chopped up, stripped out, and maybe 37-39's as a family adventure rig. The LC200's are dropping too. Especially at used car dealers. Their lot financing is a lot higher than new cars, so they're losing a lot of $ right now sitting on expensive cars. And what I'm reading in the trade press is that no one is buying used cars at auction, so they can't unload them that way.

So I'm not sure $50k is out of the question for a clean 2016 right now. For me the 16+ with the 8AT is a big plus for going newer.

you'll have to adjust the numbers a bit for your specific situation, but the LC "costs" $13k over sales price for 5 years vs the 4Runner's $5,500, so the 4R is about "$7,500 cheaper" to own. Then again your 4R is about $6,500 higher than the Edmunds example, and your LC option costs about $8k less, so using these facts the LC is probably $7k net in your favor. (still costs more, but ya know)

Of course, all of this is on paper but still worth considering.

Actually (for me at least), not a tremendous difference in insurance, certainly not enough to move you in one direction of the other.

Typically LX570's are going to be a bit less, and much easier to find, than a similar 200 series. Far more are sold.

My fuel mileage is pretty darn close to each other, again, not enough to really weigh into the calculations.

Have you driven a '16+ 200? Try to drive both back to back. I don't believe you will be questioning a decision after you do.

I would buy the LC every time, I have had a pristine 1996' FZJ80, a pretty nice 2000' 100 series and both were absolutely rock solid, I was looking at a 200 series when we got our 2014 4Runner but my wife wanted a newer car verses an older LC... but if it were me I would buy the LC every day, the key is little to no rust, nice paint and low miles you definitely wont regret it.
