4Running Daily's Build Thread

Alright, I need suggestions on what to do here.
I have a large gash in the side of my KM2. It's bigger than it looks. Roughly 1cm deep. Discount Tire should replace it because I bought the certificates, at least according to my friend that works for them.

Now my question is, what do I do with one new KM2 and 3 KM2's at 50%? I want new tires, but I really shouldn't be spending that much money right now. I feel like it would be weird and kind of wasteful to drive on one new tire.

Options:
A) **** it, drive on 3 KM2's at 50% and 1 at 100%
B) Use the credit from the KM2 and buy 4 new 35" Hankook M/T's
C) Ideas??

Get the new 35s
 
Dang 35's are expensive, looking at $1000 for the set versus driving with the 255's for longer and using that money elsewhere. Tough decision, but I'd say get the free one and don't rush it. You can probably sell the new 255 later on for as much as they would give you for the prorated 50% 3.

These tires will be bald by the end of Summer 2015. I'm just wondering if I should just cut my losses now.
 
If you drive that much maybe it will be best. I did hear that the Hankooks wear a bit fast so keep that in mind, although they would be the one MT I'd go with.
 
If you can get a free 255 it's hard to beat, unless you want new tires now. You could always save the money from now until you need the new set, then use the good 255 as a spare if it is better than what you currently have.

I just found a gash in my one tire that wasn't worn unevenly and ordered a set of duratracs. Discount tire direct on ebay has some good deals with free shipping and the free replacement certificates also. Plus you don't pay sales tax in CA.
 
SD is a good place for used tires... maybe you might come across one in your size? or buy 2 new tires for the rear only and have a 50% spare....or 2 50% tires up front. 2 100% tires in the rear?,,,

i had a gash in my tire just like that and it was only a matter of time before it went flat... in SF no less...on my GF's birthday
 
I was gonna drive up to snowboard on it, but now I'm driving Mega-Truck (Massive diesel GMC pick up).

I'll stop by discount tomorrow and see what happens.
 
I cleared the passenger side for roughly a 35" tire. I cut the fender a tad and smashed on the fire wall with a 5 foot sledge hammer. After I was done I coated that area with roof sealant, which worked pretty well.

Projectors are nearly done, paint came out really clean:

Have spent the last week or so reading through your entire build thread. Just wanted to say I am amazed by what you have done with your 4Runner. I could only dream of having mine look like yours in a year from now. Keep up the great work!

Thanks man! I really appreciate that. It's come a long way and still has a long ways to go!

Unlike most of the members on here, this 4Runner will be in my possession for a very very long time.

Discount actually just told me my tire is safe to drive on. So I'm not going to buy new tires just yet, but when I do, they'll be Hankook MT's. I was going to go Toyo MT's but they're nearly 20 pounds a tire heavier than my current KM2's, whereas the Hankook's are only 10 pounds heavier. I'll regear to 4.88 eventually.

Good old Rustoleum. I'll bet you the 4Runner is around longer than 2 or 3 years.
 
You can always go with the r/t like I just did haha I have an uncle who swears by the hankook atm. It's the only tire he buys. But I can't wait to see your rig with projectors and 35s :cool:
