4Running Daily's Build Thread

That set of DR c/o's were on Craigslist for months at $300 firm, and I knew the parts list would be extensive so I wrote them off. Then, of coarse, some SAW's popped up locally off TTORA, so I grabbed them, and the guy with the DR's dropped his price within a couple weeks on TW. Go figure. Would have only been worth it at that price IMO.

Those are nice piggy back Icon's! How much did you pick them up for? I'd be curious to know what valving you go with after the rebuild.

I picked those Icon's up for $350. :spy:

Ya I haven't done much research on the revalve yet.

1st. it would be best to have a long travel kit on you truck or plan to be getting one in the near future ( i found mine on desert rangers. com)
you should look at the "4 link calculator" on pirate 4x4,

2nd. check out the terms: single and double triangulated 4 link suspension , three link wishbone suspension a version of single triangulated link suspension ( witch is what i went for cause its easier to build lol).you should also look at the "4 link calculator" on pirate 4x4,


3rd. you just pic a coil over length 14-18 usually ( i went with 16s ) and you coil rates can be decided using the rate equation ( final rate = (R1*R2)/(R1+R2) R1 is your primary or lower coil, r2 is your secondary or tender coil) my rates were 150/250 witch i think was a lil harsh for a 4runner will change to 150/200 once some money comes in to soften her up a little .

4th you should look at the f150 tank swap many toyota,s do. it fits where your stock spare went and you will likely need the room where the stock tank went for your link/links ( i got mine from a scrap f150 for $60 )

5th id look at a few bed cage threads on taco word or ttora or google and choose you design you would make.

6th you will need to get your link mounts ( ballistic fab had a combined set for a good price ) but there are others as well
you will want either to make sleeved links with at least .25 inch wall for a light or just long travel build ,or a solid 2"x.25 inch dom or thicker lower link for heavy rigs. uppers can be .120 wall ( i did 1.75" x.120" over 1.5"x .120" dom lowers and same for my wishbone link.
the same material can be used on bed cages
i used a mix of 1.75"x.12 dom and 1.75"x.12 hrew tubing on my bed cage

lastly. you will need a welder capable of welding 1/4 " steel and some cutting tools

my build took around 3 weeks and i will warn you there was quite a bit of cutting/ welding and a lil body work, cleaning the axe of stock junk was painfully slow. but i would say if you are truly motivated you can easily do this with just a lil math. ps get some buddies or family to help out.

good luck man!! hope to see more long travel 4runners using 4 and 3 link suspensions soon cause there are more and more companies makings easy to build, instal, adjust, and use link brackets for cheap

I should be somewhere around 18" of travel in the rear.

And the front I should be at 13" with a camburg long travel kit.

Who knows how long it will take me to do all this, but once I do, [MENTION=25058]ChildrenOfBodom[/MENTION] has first dibs on my upper control arms.

And what's up with your used part prices? I wish I could find prices like that once a month even!
 
have you looked at solo motorsports at all?
they have a real nice long travel kit and you can get their fully fabricated spindles to get a lower uniball instead of having the factory one(a weak point).
