4th gen 4Runner Secrets?

If you crack the rear/back window down just a bit or forgot to have it up all the way, the defrost will not work. Ask me how I know.

This forum is a life saver. I just went through this debacle yesterday morning. (Just bought my 4R last week).

Story:
I disconnected my battery to install a new head unit. Well the next morning my defroster wouldn't work. I read on here that after a battery disconnect that you have to roll the back window all the way down and back up for it to "reset" everything.

Works now, I thought I broke the defroster at first ha.

Yes, I loved that. Now when I drive new cars lacking that feature, it's very dissapointing actually! It never seems like a big deal until you get used to it.

My secret, 4Hi with the center diff locked on snowy roads and parking lots will produce VERY fast donuts and drifts, while throwing LOTS of roost at WFO :D

Just make sure it's good and slippery, or it's hard on the driveline.

haha yeah blew my transmission doing this after about an hour on the pond...btw we call these CYCLONES :D

Everyone may already know this one, but if you have the JBL system in your 4Runner you can turn it on and off by pressing and holding the mode button on the steering wheel. It's the little things, right? :D

What!! :faint: Well this thread already taught me something! :D

Are you saying you can lock the center diff in 4hi? I didn't think this was possible?
How do you do it?

Yea well at least I know I can, I didn't while it snow and iced here and did some mean donuts! but I have just put it into 4hi the press the center diff lock in neutral wait for it to in gauge then take off.

I like the no hold starter feature where you just turn the key and the starter cranks automatically untill the engine starts.

Found a few cool things about the t4r on this thread. really like this simple one. Also liked reading about the slip yoke clunk. I thought my tranny was on it's way out.

Glad this site is here. I come in daily to read and gather information for future projects

Disable Vsc (traction control)

I'm not sure how make a post so I just posted a quick reply but in case any of you don't know how to disable the vsc and traction control without messing with any wiring and can turn it back on easily. Well ill tell you now. Pop the hood, The drivers side of the engine bay up towards the brake fluid. you will see a gray plug parallel with the truck. Unplug it doesn't matter if your truck is off or on. Then go look at your dash. if its lit up like Christmas tree you've succeeded if its not well than I guess not. Note: On some models I think the 03 to 05 will say the parking brake is on. just ignore it as you if didn't apply it then its not on. ill post a pic of the plug later for anyone who wants it. Oh also when you plug it in you have to restart your runner and your good to go! Now go raise
Hell!!

If your AC is blowing warm and there is no refrigerant leal you can switch the ac relay out with the rear dc port relay....and now you have cold air.
