Where can we buy the OEM Panasonic?? Most (if not all) Toyota dealers don't have them.
The dealer changed mine with Toyota TrueStart batt. I paid $94. They will give a $12 discount if you have a "core return". The warranty includes: 1-2 years 100% of parts,service and towing, 3-4years 50% off, 5yrs 25% off.
If you are not into offroading and don't have high wattage consumption electronics in your Runner like amps and lights, I think its best to have Toyota recommended batt installed in your vehicle.
..no hassle measuring the tray, clearance etc when buying aftermarkets....the Panasonic in Walmart is not the same as the Matsushita batt OEM in the 4runner.

No, in fact I wouldn't even know where to buy a Panasonic. I have always bought Autozone Duralast batts. because they stand by their warranty, it's affordable, they seem to hold up, and there's a ton of stores around where I travel in case I have an issue (like the two times batteries have died 300 plus miles from home, both on holidays at night when most places would have been closed).
Duralast required no mods to the tray or cables, but some other brands do, and I think some brands have the terminals reversed. Alot of people will recommend Optima, and they sound great, but it's total overkill for my applications and out of my price range.
Word of advice: put the battery anti-corrosion gel (or similar product that somebody else can recommend) on the terminals. I've used it on vehicles and in marine applications and never had a corrosion problem at the terminals.

4th gen's use an odd battery size
group 24F is close dimension-wise but I believe some folks on here have had to get a longer neg cable and shim it up to fit.
I'd rather D.I.Y. on this since I've got an aux battery / diode / 12v cig socket arrangement to keep from zeroing the computer or possibly disabling the radio.

I always select the biggest battery, in cubic inches, that will fit the tray and it sometimes requires you to make your own hold down clamp. I may times use a rubber bungie (the ones with the holes/slots in them)

What size...24F or 27F?
I'm also looking to replace my battery in my 06. I've come across some interesting stuff on the internet looking for the right battery. Looking at the Toyota Truestart Battery information it lists in the cross reference chart that our original battery, 105D31L, the best fit estimate BCI size is a 27F battery. Again looking at the application chart for the Toyota Truestart batteries it lists for both the V6 and the V8 engines both the size 24F size as well as the 27F size. Perhaps vehicles shipped to warmer climates get the 24F while the colder climates get the 27F? What has been the experience with the group as far as installing either of these battery sizes? Do either of these size batteries require any modification to the battery cable? On a separate note, the Toyota Truestart battery in the 27F size has some pretty impressive specs, 710 CCA and 165 minute reserve capacity, which is identical to the OEM Panasonic that comes in the 4Runner.

I finally took the easy way out and had the dealer do it. 60 mo batt, 625 cca, perfect fit, 20 minutes, w/new hold down hardware, $88 drive out price.
