4th gen - RCA and amp power routing?...

...has anyone done it? I know that you should avoid running RCAs with the power cable. I assume that the battery is on the passenger side of the engine compartment (I don't have my 4R yet). If so, I'm guessing it's easiest to run power under the door sills on the passenger side. Is this correct?

Is it easiest to run RCA down the center or under the driver's side door sills? Is running them under the rug (rear seat floor area) even possible?

What are you wiring? If it is only for subs, then it really does not matter, anyway.

What year are you looking to buy?
 
I plan on buying an '05 late this week. :D

She'll have the non-JBL sound system. I already have a scion head unit that'll replace the stock headunit soon after I drive it off the lot.

I also have an amp adaptor for the scion head unit. I plan on hooking up an infinity basslink. So yes, it'll just be for sub(s). Are you saying that because I'm powering subs only it's ok to run the RCAs and power cable together?
 
For something like that, I would be surprised if the way the cables are run have any noticeable effect on sound.

Usually the reason to separate your cable runs is to stop noise from being induced into your system. Given your project, I would be most concerned with making sure that the connections at you head unit are in a good location and properly grounded (if needed).

What do you mean by "amp adapter"?
Is this a Line Output Converter, or a specific accessory to add RCA's to the Scion unit?

BTW - Good choice on avoiding the JBL. "Premium" sound systems can rarely compete with aftermarket and usually a pain to upgrade.
 
It was $50 on ebay. I saw a link to an expired auction and e-mailed the seller asking if he'd sell any outright. He instead just gave me a date as to when he'd be listing more.

It feels good indeed. [One of] my previous car was a '95 M3. And the car before that was a 1.8T from VW. I'm no stranger to the mod bug. I'm just glad the the aftermarket isn't as HUGE for the 4runner as it was for either of those two cars.

I normally run the patch (aka RCA) cables under the door sill on either the driver or passenger side (depending on the vehicle). As far as not running it along with the power cable, it is generally better not to do so (as well as along the tranny tunnel). Doing so may cause RF/EMI interference and ground noise. However, you can get a ground filter which gets rid of ground noise (humming). For a good to high quality audio system, you want to get shielded patch cables which usually has multiple layers of braided foil, etc. or you can get "twisted pair" cables in which the two wires (+/-) inside the jacket are twisted together like braids. Since the 2 wires are twisted together, they cross each other at 90 degree angles, thus "cancelling out" most, if not all, interference that may have been picked up down the line. That'd be great if I can get his email addy. Good luck with your mod too. You definitely won't regret getting the 4runner. Oh, and like Hank said, make sure you don't get anywhere near the power wire. The humming can drive you nuts, and even with the filter it will still be there.

The chances of audio interference affecting this are very small, especially considering the low wattage of the amp. Just make sure your grounds are solid.

Adapter Part Number?

Do you have the adpater part number or where to find it. I am looking to ad an Amp to my stock stereo system and do not want to cut the harness.
