4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Me. Check my build thread link in my sig?

Nice man. That's the height I'm going for. I have a v6 though. Been thinking 1.75 setting with 1.5 rear spacers. I know v6 gets slightly more lift than v8. Don't know if it will need uca. I want it to be level with max lift, also without having to get uca. (Hopefully) shooting for your sake tire size too.

Does anyone have any input for me?...
I've asked this question a few times and no one has helped. I ordered a body lift from 4crawler because everyone said that they were the best. It's a 1.25" body lift. I have yet to install because I don't want a gap in my bumpers. They say on the website that you just move your bumper bracket up a notch and it takes care of the gap. But when I took off my bumper after I ordered the lift and was about to install I noticed that there wasn't any bracket. Just studs in the frame that the front bumper attached to. Can anyone that has done this lift on a 4th gen explain to me a little better how you took care of the body gap? PLEASE ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREAT. I really want to install it but I couldn't stand having the bumper gap.

Not to thread jack but I have 5100's with taco springs but my 5100's are at 2.5...ill probably be going to OME 885 or 886 down the road, I need a little more height in the front

Just unbolt those 3 nuts on each side and move it up one notch leaving the bottom bolt empty and the top hole empty. You were on exactly the right spot. [emoji106]

Hey fella's, newbie here.

:behindsofa:

I've been doing quite a bite of reading and was able to decide on new tires as my first change to my new baby.

Went with 265/70/17 Duratrac tires and am now looking into new suspension as it seems as if my rear right shock is shot (light clatter over small bumps)

I think I've decided on the following setup but wanted to run it by the experts before pulling the trigger.

Billstien 5100's Front and Rear
FJ Coils Front And Rear

Daystar 2/1 Lift?

I use my truck more so as a daily driver and will take here to the mountains from time to time for outdoor activities. I'd like to make sure that the handling is compromised as least as possible while still having that aggressive look of a lift.

Any thoughts or pics would be truly appreciated.

PS- Can anyone from the Denver area recommend a good shop to have this work done at?

Thanks in advance.

:peace:

PS-

Any pros/cons to either of these setups?

2015 Tocoma TRD Shocks And Springs (Rear And Front) 10K Miles $300

2014 FJ Cruiser Stock Shocks And Springs (Rear And Front) 850 Miles $100

Thanks Again!

I can't find any pics but are there any people out there lowering the rear to level with the stock front ride height? I have a 2007 sport 4runner 2 wheel drive and wanted to get some pictures of that. I like the ride height on the Land Cruisers and wanna mimic that.

I can get you Japan lowering springs, but you could also do a front spacer to make it level.

I have a 2004 4Runner v6 with 4wd. I am going to install shocks and springs from a 2007 FJ Cruiser 4wd. Based on hours of reading this thread, it looks like I will need to add a toytec spacer to keep just a bit of rack. I concluded that I needed the 1/4 spacer for about 1/2 front lift to have just a bit of drop on the front. I called Toytec and they told me that the 1/2 inch spacer is what I want and that I will end up with about 1 inch of front lift to balance the front and the rear. What! Does anyone have some input? I want just a bit of drop on the front, about what I have now pre FJ swap. Thanks in advance. Phil

I'm going to bump him because I have a similar question.

I'm looking at OME springs with bilsteins and am lost on which spacer to go with to correct left to right lean. I see 4 different options on wheelers site and searching shows you guys using a variety of different things. What do you all suggest? 10mm? 30mm? 1.5" daystars?

OME makes a spacer specifically for left to right leveling. I just finished with a OME / 5100 lift on my '05 but the only spacer I used was for front to back leveling and it was Wheelers 3/8" spacer. Here is the link for the left to right spacer you are looking for.

I have the Toytec Ultimate lift , and a set of BFG KO2's 275/70/18 on the way. What else do I need to get this done right? Do I need to get some wheel spacers, and expect to have to do the body mount chop, add a 1" body lift?

When we do the rear spacers the left rear is made thicker to fix this issue. Also, I can have the rear spacers made in any custom size you want.

Newbie lift questions

Hey guys, been reading about suspension lift options but I still want to be sure before i pull the trigger. I have a 2004 SR5 V8 4WD with 160,000 miles, all original, 17" factory wheels. I am thinking of lifting it to gain some clearance for future vacations to areas with 4 wheel drive only roads and areas, and I think it looks better lifted. I thought a 3" up front and 2" in the back would be right and then go with a 285/70/17 or similar size tire, thinking Duratrac right now.
I got a quote from 4 wheel parts for a Revtec 431 lift kit, 2 -Bilstein 5100 struts and some 1.25" wheel spacers. $1500 installed, seems expensive, $320 to install plus $150 more for alignment. Maybe that's about standard. My questions are this,
1) Can't I just use spacers for the front and back to lift it and then install 5100's in the front and back? Cheaper than the Revtec kit and I would assume better shocks than the one's included in the kit.
2) My the 4 runner has struts up front and shocks in the rear right not shocks all the way around?

Really just looking for a cost effective way to get the lift to run a larger tire, won't be doing any real 4 wheeling, 99% highway mileage, pulling an enclosed work trailer some of the time so a stiffer suspension to help support the load is a plus.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Aftermarket Noise

Okay - lurker here back again...
Time to invest (nice word for spend) on new suspension.
Drive like truck owes' me money and likely to break anything. 80% street - 20% technical crawls, bad roads, no roads, mud, snow, etc... Its a hunting rig I use like an ATV until I get to where I hike in from, but that I happen to drive on street...

2009 Limited 6 cylinder... Running tall skinnie Michelin tires 31.9 dia currently with cornfed spacer lift front & rear and xreas - which is all going bye bye. Running Demelo front bumper with 12k warn winch... and a bull prick.

Here is what I'm looking at:
Front -
Radflo extended travel coilovers - 2.5
Light Racing UCA (could be TC for a little more I think)

Rear -
Springs - Superflex or Superflex HD?
Firestone - blue air bags
Bilstein 5100s (already have on shelf)
Air pressure gauge inflate kit from my other truck...

When going aftermarket - I understand I should expect squeaks. I'd like to pick components where I can service some squeaky part.

I want to raise the vehicle 2.5 to 3" with that bumper up front. Keep roughly the same center of gravity @ 3". Want something serviceable since I know the shocks or something will start to squeak. Will use airbags to carry extra load -so thinking the basic Superflex and new spring coilovers without sway bard will give me more articulation... not sure.??

So - any comments welcome. I'll call the folks at Metaltech too... and see what they say - but for anyone who may use or abuse their truck like me - I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Removing X-Reas

Figured I might as well tag in here with all the other suspension questions...

About to remove the X-Reas from my 2003 Sport and replace them with some aftermarket shocks. My mechanic told me that while the X-Reas is leaking, it hasn't gotten bad enough to damage anything else - that is, at only 130K miles, he thinks the stock springs are still good. I will be doing the removal and install myself.

I use my 4R only for street use as it is a 2WD vehicle. I am trying to decide:
1) Is there an issue keeping the stock springs?
2) Bilsteins or KYB shocks? I only do street driving, would the bilsteins be overkill?

Any other tips on removing the X-Reas or installing the new shocks would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, my lift is on and for anybody that might want to run this size tire there has been no problems at all.

I've ran my 03 V8 limited stock for years and now its time to ditch the RAS and XReas.

I've ordered the gx470 RAS conversion kit from metaltech, but before I order coils and shocks, I was wondering for those who have experience with this kit, is there any limitations/concerns when pairing it with a rear coil?

I'm using stock FJ Cruiser coils with mine, but it will work with any coil made for the 4runner, shouldn't be an issue.
