4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

I'm very new to both Toyotas and 4runner but I'm looking to buy a 4th gen and do some work.
Could someone please explain the difference in these two options (other than the $300
3" Lift W/ Bilstein 5100 Height Adj Coilovers FJ/4Runner
FJ Cruiser/4Runner Ultimate 3" lift package

Thanks!

The more expensive one has fully adjustable COs meaning that you can adjust the height easily with spanner wrenches in whatever increments you want, the bottom collar just moves up and down. The other ones are adjustable in 4 preset increments that you can adjust but have to disassemble the entire CO assembly. Make sense?

Has anyone used Tacoma springs instead of FJ springs? Thinking of pairing them with 5100's up front and just wondering how much lift they would give me. I've seen from 1-2.5" but not many people run this set up so it's hard to know.

I run 'em. 1 inch just from the taco springs, as I popped them on the stock shocks for a while just to see what they'd do. Plus 2.5 from the cranked bils.

Without having to go back and read all the posts I have a question. Ome 884 and 885 both are 2.5" of lift but with different spring rates correct?

Question 2... I currently have 5100 set at 2.5 with my stock coils. If I put the day star 1" spacer it be way to much or will it actually be pretty close to a 3.5" lift. Just trying to get the front a little higher without buying new coils just yet since I will be building a bumper soon (like 6 months) but looking to get rims and tires first.

The 884s and 885s have the same spring rate, but different lengths. Both should give 2.5-3" when fit to the correct application.
V6 4wd - 884
V8 4wd - 885
If you plan to add aftermarket steel bumpers, I'd suggest 885s for v6 and 886s for v8. The 886 does have a higher spring rate and is also longer.

I wouldn't use the Daystar, it's actually 1" thick and gives 2" lift. You'd need a 1/2" thick spacer. Toytec and Wheelers both sell them.

That said, unless you have aftermarket UCAS I wouldn't suggest adding the spacer. It could cause issues with alignment and also increased wear because it pushes the suspension out of the normal range of motion (similar to extended travel coilovers, which require aftermarket UCAS).

Toyota dealer wants 400.00 bucks to just put on the 4 Bilstein shocks. They said it was 3 hrs labor for the front and 1 hr labor for the rear. Does this sound right? I will supply the shocks for them to put on.

4 hours labor is about right. I'd try finding a small local shop that would do it, they'll most likely have a much lower hourly rate.

With the UCA how much can I lift the front without having an axle issue?

I still wouldn't go much past 3.5", 4" absolute max. I've ran 3.5" for a while now without any issues.

My question is with UCA's and a diff drop would I be able to lift my tr4 3.5/4"? Or should I just be happy with UCA's and about 3.5" of lift.
