4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

So they don't lift anymore than FJ springs it sounds like. Thanks!

They give roughly 1/2" more than FJ coils.

Looking for opinions on the 1" diff drop

General consensus is there isn't any real benefit. It only tilts the front of the differential down, it doesn't lower the whole differential 1". With a 3" lift, the angle of the CVs isn't much more than stock, so no issues with increased wear or anything.

Is it a bad idea to put 884 on the 5100 set .85. Or should I just get the top plate spacer to get 3"

884s with the v6 should give you very close to 3" by themselves. I would run them with the shocks set to stock height. If you're set on more, I'd get 885s. They are roughly 1/2" taller than the 884s.

Okay, I've finally got my ducks in a row, and I'll be installing Tacoma springs from a 06 pre runner on Bilstein 5100's here in a few weeks or so. Not sure whether to set the billies to 1.75 or 2.5... My guess is since they're springs from a pre runner and not a 4x4; I'll get .5-1.25 ish inches of lift out of it? I don't know if they're the same a 4x4 springs or not. Plan on running super flexes and 5100's in the rear. Maybe a 1.5 inch spacer on drivers side to eliminate the yota lean. Just want to hear you more experienced guys' opinions on if this will work, if I need to change something, and any other advice. Thanks!

If I ran the 885 with no extra weight up front wouldn't it be pretty stiff

884s and 885s are the same coil rate, so one shouldn't feel stiffer than the other. Only difference would be the 885s lift more due to the extra length. You will bottom out the shocks more easily with the 885s as a result of more lift ( same issue if you used 884s and the .85" setting). I would stick to the 884s, you should get very close to 3" with them. 885s are an option, but will give 3.5"+ lift and I wouldn't go that high, especially with the Bilsteins.

I've been doing a lot of research and finally purchased new shocks and coils.

I went with tacoma trd front springs, toytec 3/4" spacer, and bilstein(set at .85)
5100s and toytec superflex for the rear.

Will this setup make the truck sit close to level and offer a decently comfortable ride?
Should I get rear sway bar link extenders?

So what's the deal when toytec says get the top plate spacer 3".

Individual results may vary, but most I've seem here are getting 2.5"-3" with just the 884s. If you were putting them on a v8 4runner, then yes you would need a spacer for a full 3" of lift. The v8 is heavier than the v6 and the v8 also comes with taller coils from the factory. Toytec, and most other companies don't take that into account. If you want a guaranteed 3", you would be ok with the 1/4" spacer, but I would not do the 1/2" spacer Toytec includes as an add on. Over 3" you may have difficulty getting alignment into spec unless you run aftermarket ucas. That would be my concern and why I don't suggest the spacer. 1/2" extra lift I'm the front is negligible IMO.

I wouldn't use the top plate spacers with the 5100s, I'd rather just use the 1.75 setting. Either way, you should be level and have a good ride. Extended rear swaybar links would help, but not required.

I have a guy I can get some 2013 TT fj springs from for my 2006, I realize the shocks are not a direct swap but are the 2013 springs a direct swap?

So say I was running 884's in front and superflexes in back with 5100's all around, how much lift would that net me?

Edit: '03 SR5 V6

Why is it toytec says the 884 and 885 coil is only a 2" lift and here its 2.5

I got 3" with 885s on my v8 4runner. Other numbers I've seen were similar. Only real explanation is that it depends on how much your stock suspension has sagged. Maybe we're all replacing very worn suspensions, and the Toytec numbers were from one with very little sag. Different starting points, different lift heights. This is purely speculation, would be nice to have measurements from a low mileage stock 4runner for comparison.

Yes it would be nice to know. Does any body know someone with a 4th gen. with under 10k miles.

Do people usually add sway bar extenders to both front and rear if they're keeping the front bars? Also, where does one find a steering extension, and is it necessary for a 2.5" front lift?
