Thanks for your info! Been searching for some different options for a while.
THis would really help me figure out my 6112s i had installed last week. Can i ask what c-clip setting did you used and whats your hub to fender measurement?
Thanks
That's exact what I'm about to do, super excited.I just installed bilstein 6112 coilovers on my front end, and bilstein 5160 reservoir shocks on the rear with 2" lift medium duty coils. I love the set up, and think it would be great with what you are wanting.
My measurements after a few weeks of settling, and some rough offroading/crawling are: (ground to fender / hub to fender)
FR: 36.75" / 21.75"
FL: 36" / 21"
RR: 38.25" / 23.5"
RL: 38.25" / 23.5"
Bump for answers or help. I'm also considering the nittos 285 70 17 on the stock wheels. Will this work?So this is the set up I'm considering. 5100s on all 4 corners with the front set at 2.5 and 1.5 saw coils in the rear. I orginally was going to do 1.75 in the front with a 1" cornfed spacer in the rear, but do to hualing a 1100lb tear drop so I think I need the coils for the weight. Several questions:
1. Is this a good set up?
2. Bilstein makes an adjustable rear shock. Should I use those instead of the coils?
3. Suggestion on wheel size that could also fit the spare wheel well? I only want to go up to 31-32" tire size. I would like to keep the stock wheels but doesn't seem safe according to the tire size calculator.
4. I decided to go with those adjustments to keep a little rake and not look like the rear is dragging when I'm towing the camper.

Thanks for the great info, but I still have several questions if anyone can answer them.
- Why are lifts typically different between the front and back? Would this not un level the vehicle?
- Regarding FJ springs, the guide says they lift both the front and the back, but they always come in pairs of two. I’m guessing I need two sets for a total of 4 springs. Is this correct?
- Regarding Bilstein shocks, most people have theirs at .85” instead of 1.75”. Is there a reason for this?
- For my lift, I’m looking at getting Bilstein shocks, FJ springs, and new tires. I’ve read that people recommend getting these all done at once. Is there a reason for this outside of convenience?
Figured I would share my experience. I just had Wheelers T1 and T12 coils installed. I initially had Bilstein 5100s installed around a year ago with the stock springs (the clip to the first setting just about leveled it). I just had the springs installed and had them put the clip back to the original setting. This ended up raising the front 1.5", and the rear went up 2.5"!? I was expecting for a level stance but I guess I should/could have left clips where they were. Maybe the rear spring will settle some. *FYI those are 265/70s
So after all the reading I've done I think I'm only bumping the tire size up to a 265 70 17 from a 265 65 17. 275 70 17 is still in the mix but due to the lack of brands I may not opt for this size.
The biggest decision I'm struggling with is the lift. I'm without a doubt going with the Bilstein 5100 on all 4 corners.
I wanted to do 1.75 in the front with the shocks and add a 1" cornfed spacer to the rear. But if I ever wanted to go to a 17x8 wheel and jump up to a 285 tire I would not have enough clearance.
So the 2nd option would be to set the Bilsteins to the highest setting, 2.5 and add 1.5" saw coils in the rear, no spacers, so I would always have the option to move to a bigger wheel and tire.
I don't want to mod anything else if I don't have to. The tires I'm looking at are the Nitto tera grapplers, KO2, Faulkens, and General grabbers
Does anyone have one of these set ups or could provide some insight on which set up would work the best? I'f I do the 265 70 17 and I like the look and functionality I would most likely stick with them.
Fitting tires has little to do with lift amount, I fit 285/70/17's with only a leveling kit in the front. If you use up all of your travel/flex out occasionally the suspension still travels the same path whether you have a lift or not; you will have to do the same amount of trimming.
Trimming with the 285s correct? I havent read where there was a need to trim with the 265 70 17. I guess I'm just more looking for reason to do the 2.5" lift with coils vs. the 1.75" lift with a spacer in the rear. My thinking is the 2/1 lift will require more trimming if I bump up to a 275/70 or 285/70. This would be a correct assessment?
So 2/1 or 2.5/1.5 is more for preference of look the function. I'm out on doing a body lift so I'll most likely stick to 265 70 or 275 70s. Thanks for the info.I had to trim with my 285s.
The trimming amount between 2/1 and 2.5/1.75 is minimal on the street, and there is no difference in trimming if you wheel your truck. Suspension lifts don't effect that, only body lifts.
Has anyone used the bilsteinlifts.com website before? They are not associated with Bilsteins but sell the shocks along with fox and toytec parts. Just wondering because there is no phone number to call, only email.
