4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

I’m sure this has been covered more than once here, but 2900+ pages is a lot to read through.

2005 Ltd. with XREAS and RAS...

My plan is to start with replacing the XREAS with 5100’s
That process seems pretty straight forward.
My questions is...
If I keep the stock RAS(Rear air bags) am I able to replace the rear shocks with the 5100’s or do I need something different?

If so, what?

I plan on also doing the RAS coil conversion in the near future, but don’t have the funds for it all at once. Would this still be an option.

Thanks in advance.
The rear is live axle, so the shock doesn't have anything to do with the spring. You can leave the RAS alone.

You have to tear apart the front strut to change the shock out so might as well do a new spring while you are at it, no sense doing it twice.

Yes for sure! I plan on doing the front springs at the same time as the shocks.
Was just wondering if I could leave there rear airbags while using 5100’s all the way around.

Yes, you can.

You can even adjust the height sensor arm to get a little more lift, if you like.

2004 lift options

Okay so I've been trying to decipher all the info on this thread but I keep confusing myself.... I have a 2004 4runner and currently have a Spacer lift put on directly by Toyota, I'm mad at my younger self for paying an arm and a leg for a spacer lift I could now do myself... I'd like to get some suspension lift enough to throw some 285/70/17 on it with out straying to far from the 500$ mark. Any ideas?? I have -18 offset 9" wheels so a little trimming is expected but hopefully not any modifications to the body mount.

Anybody have any thoughts on the FJ Ultimate Trail Team or the Dobinsons 2" lift kit? I have an 08' 4x4 V8 and I'm just looking to level things out and be able to fit 265/65R18 without rubbing. The FJ kit can be had pretty inexpensively, but I'm mostly concerned about the ride as this is my daily driver. I do carry my motorcycle or bike rack on the back quite frequently. I'm debating about which kit as well as spring rates. Does anyone know if it will ride better with stock spring rates and adding air-bags vs leaving out the air bag and getting a little heavier weight springs.

I have the JBA's, love them, the ball joint design is really nice and you can always swap in a MOOG joint if ever needed. I just had my alignment done and was able to get 3.5deg caster, tracks nice and straight down the highway, real plus in windy conditions with a tall roof rack.
Thanks for that info! didn't know we could swap them with a Moog joint.

I was in your shoes a month or so ago and went with spc for the adjustability in caster and camber. The new spc arms are one piece forged so I had no worries about welds cracking like the old ones did.
Those are the two things that make me neutral about buying them. Pro is the super adjustability.. Con is that sure they are one piece forged now, but... They've had a reputation of cracking. Who knows how well these forged pieces are...

2005 SR5 suspension upgrade?

Just bought a 05 SR5 4wd about a month ago and it came with Icon coilovers installed (with fully stock rear). I'm not exactly sure how long they have been on there but the place I bought it from said they checked them and they didn't need a rebuild or servicing.

The overwhelming majority of my driving is street, so peak off road performance isn't something I really feel the need to strive/pay for. I will be hitting the occasional trail/off road park to camp (I live in the Ozarks) but this 4Runner is my DD and I work a normal day job.

Currently I'm debating between two options:

  1. Buy Icon rear shocks (2.0 VS) and springs (2") for about $550 to match front
  2. Buy a Dobinsons kit (front coilovers, rear shocks and springs) for about $760 with their current Father's Day sale

EDIT: I went with a mix of 1 & 2 - bought the Icon 2.0 rear shocks and Dobinson's rear springs (the 325's) and I'll just run the Icon coil overs until they've given up. Gave me extra margin to get a recovery gear kit from Dobinson's :D

5th gen rear coils compatible with 4th gen?

Looking for a rear coil spring for my 4th gen V8 to get 1” lift. Interested in eibach but they have it listed as 2010+. Does anyone know if 5th and 4th rear coils are compatible? Here’s the part number...

Looking for some advice

Greeting all,

I'm the proud owner of an 08 SE with a V8. In the next couple months I'm planning on installing one of them nifty C4 Low-Pro bumpers and a 10k winch. I'm currently running Blistein 5100's on all 4 corners, stock springs in the rear with a 1.25" Traxda spacer and OME 2885 springs up front (2"). I know that adding the bumper and winch is going to add significant weight to the front end and I'm wondering if any of you fine knowledgeable peeps could make some suggestions as to what, if any, changes I should make to my front end to account for the extra weight. Should I be upgrading the springs? Shocks? Leave as is?

I'm trying to prevent the front end from dipping and/or taking a dive upon braking. Any and all suggestions and points of views will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!

Clunking after spacer lift

So I made the decision (somewhat regretting it) to put a daystar 2.5/1.5 lift on my 08 urban runner. I do plan on getting a suspension lift once the xreas goes out, but until then this is what I've got. I have noticed that there is a bit of a clunk when going over even small bumps that seems to come from the front driver side floorboard. I have yet to diagnose exactly where the sound is coming from.

Has this happened to anyone else? Or might someone know what would be the cause of this?

Thank you.

You should get the dobinsons that lift an inch to inch and a quarter. I have them and they ride so smooth. I’m gonna take them out to get the 2 inch ones cause I replaced my front suspension and now I have reverse rake.

I recently installed my lift. Bilstien shocks, wheelers T1/T12 springs, New KYB strut mounts, and new moog rear 2nd gen swaybar links. I noticed recently when driving at slow speeds in parking lots and drive-thrus I am getting a lot of squeaking from my front end. Mostly when wheels turn, braking and front compresses a little, or one tire hits a bump. Any ideas what may be causing this and how to fix it? The squeaking isn't that loud and I can only hear it with the windows down and radio off.

My guess is sway bar bushings.

HERE is the one for your truck.

I'm a dealer for Eibach and can get you guys these.

BUT, why does it say "Must be used with Eibach Pro-Truck Sport Rear Shocks." You guys are using with regualt shocks and no issues?

Also, another alternative, I can make you guys custom rear spacers in ANY SIZE.
