4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Shocks have to removed and disassembled. Do not use those cheap spring compressors you can rent. Have a shop do it correctly or you could try the "no compressor" method if you know what you're doing.

Thanks i appreciate the info.

I have never really trusted those cheap spring compressors. When i had these 6112 assembled i did take it to a professional shop. Worth $50 and done within 5 or 8 mins.

Ive seen it done

I was looking to move my 6112 clip up a notch. Can i do this while still mounted vehicle or would i have to take them off and disassemble them?

I just a little confused if i do it while still mounted it just compresses the spring more and staying the same height vs disassembling it and like reset the preload

the shop that installed and later adjusted the ride height of my 6112s did it. by removing the strut assembly and while compressing the spring and moving the c-clip. It is possible but you need to use a standing spring compressor. Would i try this at home....nope..

This is correct. You can adjust the clip while the spring is compressed using a wall mount compressor. This of course requires removing the assembly, compressing the spring, repositioning the clip, and then releasing the pressure of the spring allowing it back onto the seat. You don't have to disassemble them but you do have to remove them

Question on suspension lift and tire size (I'm new)

I have a 2005 4runner v6, and I want to fit 285/75r16 (Or 285/70r17) and I was wondering if I could fit that with Bilstein 5100s in the front, max setting (which is 2.5 I believe), the Toytech 1" body lift. I am not sure what to do about the rear though, would the OME 895 work on stock rear shocks? If Bilstein had a rear option that actually provided lift I would go with that but I don't believe they have one. If that's not enough to fit that size tire than what is?

Looking for some spring rate/clip setting advice. I've decided to go with Bilstein 6112s for the front. I plan on adding a CBI bumper, skid plates, and a winch in the near future. From the research I've done I see that the springs that come with the Bilsteins are not enough for those add-ons, especially with a V8.

I am looking at King springs, and can't decide between the 650lb and 700lb springs. I would prefer to do the least amount of preload with about 2" of lift.

If I go with 700lb and none of the other mods yet, would the lowest clip setting be sufficient for 2"?

Advice

I just purchased the Daystar 2.5 kit. I figured I would replace rear shocks while installing the Daystars. I have the KYB strut/shock assemblies on the front. What shocks would be recommended for rears? KYB?
I don't do any hard core wheeling. Just dirt back roads. Thanks in advance.

i assume it would only rub in the front though right?

I had to remove rearmud flaps and screws on rear and at full compression it rubs slightly. The front will rub due to wheel offset(I have same offset) you will need to do some serious trimming and probably body mount chop unless you don't go offroad

only mild off roading really and for moutain weather nothing like rock crawling but i feel like offsets would make rubbing less?

So I just recently got a 04 Sport Edition,(after I stupidly bought a jeep last year) California, one owner car OBO 185K miles on it (all service records are from toyota dealerships). I will be installing a Toytech 3/2 spacer lift for the moment just to stuff the 285 BTG's I currently have onto the truck.
I am only doing this for the moment as I will be converting to a ICON or Toytech Boss kit w/1"BL in the near future. I will only be driving the truck on highway to and back from Canada with this setup till the truck goes back in the shop in February to have the remainder of the work done on it.
Is there any way around the body mount chop or will I require to do this no matter what? Is there anything else other than the inner fender relocate and mudflap removal that I will need to do? (I.e trimming of any kind?)
Thanks

I’m sure this question has been asked a lot. I’ve been searching around and I just want to make sure I do it right.

My setup right now is
Front: Stock springs on Bilstein 5100 set to 1.75”
Rear: Stock springs on 5100 and Daystar 1.5 spacer

I recently did the rear spacers and I didn’t think it would lift it by that much and now the rake is just stupid. I want to replace the front springs to try to level it as much as possible. Thinking of getting Toytec springs which is supposed to give it a 2.5” lift.

Would this setup level my truck? Any other recommendations?

Thanks

HELP-can anyone point me to a thread about 4th gen v8 4wd problems? new to this site

Hello, I just got a 2003 v8 limited and the found out the 4wd doesn't engage. Can anybody point me to the right thread on how to solve this problem? This site is extensive and hard to navigate. I really want to get my first 4runner running properly cuz it's snowing!

Getting ready to install my lift this week. For people who have done it themselves, where did you put jackstands for the rear? My plan is to use a bottle jack to push the rear axle away from the frame enough to fit the taller spring in. If I put the jackstands on the axle, then I'll be pushing the vehicle up and away rather than the axle down and away, which I want to avoid. Trying to figure out the best place for them that's not the rear axle.
