4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Hey guys, tried searching, but this thread is huge and packed with a shit ton of info. I just got the 5100s front and rear and some Moog FJ front and rears. Was planning on putting them on next week or so, but had a question. Is ok to put some pre-load on 5100s with the FJ swap? Although it’s an OEM spring, it does give a slight lift and I know that you don’t want to pre-load the 5100s with lift coils. TIA and loving the info I’ve found over here.

For reference: I have the Limited V6 and measurements from floor to fender are 32.875” LF and RF and 35.5” LR and RR

You will be fine if you preload FJ springs.

Thanks. I figured as much being that there’s not much height difference, but wanted to be 100% before I put a pre-load on them.

Eibach lift kit

I just recently installed this kit. Definitely an improvement over stock. The ride quality in my opinion is excellent and the the factory rake is gone. I chose this kit because it was on sale vs toytec 3" lift

Following the instructions. I installed them at the first notch recommend by Eibach to maintain stock cv angles, which it does nicely, still gives me leveled and lift.

Im thinking of adding bigger tires, Has anyone with this lift ran 285/70/17.

or would i be able to run a 285 with like maybe a 1-1.5" body lift without messing with cv angles. If i do the math the lift gets me 2.75/1, with the body lift 3.75/2, if i do one inch bodylift.

Looking at the FAQ on this thread. I think i'm in the ballpark to fit 285, we'll maybe I just answered my own question, prolly would still have to trim and modify to get these wheels to fit regardless...??

I am definitely no expert on anything lift related but, wouldn't a diff drop be cheaper and easier than a BL?

Quick question. So I just got around to installing my OME 886 coils in the front and toytec superflex coils on the rear, I had been running 5100s with stock coils previously. And I noticed that all full droop the UCA is resting on the coil, I haven't mounted the tire up or driven it yet, but I'm wondering if you're supposed to torque the UCA in a specific place and not at full droop because I noticed it has some spring to it when fully torqued and it returns to that spot when the springs/shocks weren't in. Or maybe there's something else I'm not understanding, but I don't remember the ucas touching the springs before.

Torqued with the wheels on the ground, neutral position.

Upgrade stock suspension

Hey guys, I was wondering what everyone has had luck with keeping most of the components stock including tire size. The stock shocks are on their way out as they are rusting out. Honestly the truck still rides pretty decent, but am looking at options for when its a necessity. What would be my best option to keep the stock ride hight for the most part (would ideally like to level out the front) but am keeping stock tire size and upgrading tires and rims. I know everyone loves the bilstien 5100s but I am worried they might be too stiff for the type of driving we will be using it for. Dobinsons, fox, icon, eibach, bilstien are all brands I have been looking into. I was somewhat interested in the new bilstien 6112s that the new TRD pro uses but dont know if that would be overkill for my application. Any other options I have missed, or anyone running a setup that they are happy with without changing tire size. This is my wifes daily driver and a weekend warrior for me once or twice a month. Nothing too crazy, as I am building up my 88 FJ62 for a more hardcore trail rig. Also curious if I should swap out my springs as well if I am going to do the shocks too.

Thanks in advance!

Did you do the install?
What is in the rear? Extended coils or a spacer?

If you used the 'QuikLift' that is supposed to be 2.5" front and 1.5" rear.
The front ends up closer to 2".

On the rear coils there is a isolator/overload, it is 1/2" thick, I put a 1/4" piece of that UHMW plastic cut to fit (disc) to lower the rear some. Has been good for many years now. Seems like a couple guys make them now.

I would think you could add a 1/4" spacer on top of the RS9000xl to lift the front more.

tks for yor answer.

The installation was made by a mechanic ... but I bought the suspension and found a mechanic for the installation ... I think that was my mystic...

I installed the "Rancho RS9000XL Shock Absorber" and "Rancho RS9000XL Strut"... dont was the "QuikLift"

The runner have all stock components. I only changed the old suspension (shocks and strut) by the new suspension (rancho).

In the front the tire is hitting a little part of the fender and that's the principal problem. By this is that I think it's necessary put spacers in the front suspension.

Ok,
so its is not the Rancho Quicklift that has built in 2" lift.

You just did a stock size/no lift.
To level the front you can do a 1" spacer.
Daystar™ - Driven by Design

Seems like others have had to 'adjust' the fender liner by pushing it forward.

These 4th gen came with too much front rake (low front end) from the factory.

I was thinking in put a 3" spacer.

If i put a 1.5” thick spacer daystar rear... I need to changed something more?

If you level/raise the front it would be 1.5" to 2". It is about 2:1 ratio in the front, 1" spacer = 2" lift in the front.
Would not need any other parts.

These things lean to the drivers side.

If you lift the rear 1.5" then you would also want to raise the front 2.5" to 3".
Then you need more parts.
UCAs, to get the castor back, so it actually drives straight without you steering non-stop.
Front swaybar relocate, if you want to keep that thing, if you are more a off-roader type you may like to remove the front bar.
Rear extended swaybar links.
Alignment
trimming for your larger tires...probably something I am forgetting...mud flap delete...bump stops...

Ok. Its necesary made some modifications. So that can be the next part.

For now I only put the 2" spacer in the front.

Tks BackOff for your help.
