4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

I know it's typically used when there's contact between the swaybar and shock/coil, but do you think the swaybar relocate would help? I've not dealt with that contact so I can't say for sure. The sb relocate would move the swaybar forward, you can look and see if that would help.

Second option, as you mentioned, is wheel spacers/adapters. I would not run the ring type spacers that just slip over the existing studs. Use a hub centric spacer/adapter such as the Spidertrax or All Pro (AP does make both hub and lug centric versions, you want the hub centric ones). Due to design, 1.25" is the narrowest option available on these spacers. If you're going to run spacers, it's definitely worth the cost to go with one of these two, much safer and more reliable.

I've already installed the 1"-thick swaybar relocation blocks (between the swaybar & the frame) & diff drop pucks that came with the Toytec ULK. Not sure if this is what you're referring to....

If that's the case, then I guess I'm limited to either removing the swaybar, or going with the 1.25" spacer/adapters...

Yes, that's what I was referring to. Sounds like the only option in that case is the wheel spacers. They will definitely solve your issues, but be aware they may also cause rubbing in other areas. It's nothing major, but something to be prepared for.

Hey everyone,
Anybody remove the front sway bar? Does it really affect the handling without it?
Suggestions?

Thanks

Hey, The kit I have came with huge coilovers, its a 6" adjustable bracket drop designed for an Fj that I modified to fit a T4R. I've searched for ways to get the sway bar to fit again, and no luck, but it only took me a little while to get used to not having it and its honestly not so bad. Saying this, I dont speed as much since the lift.

If you find conflicting info, please point it out specifically so I can get it updated.

It takes about 1.5" lift to level the 4runner. The spacer you linked to is 2.5", so unless you're adding a rear spacer, it'll be too high in the front. There really aren't any options for a 1.5" lift spacer, most use a 1" lift spacer.

That said, if you're looking for more lift, daystar makes a 2.5"/1.5"kit that lifts and levels the 4runner, just all depends on how high you want to go.

Hi Guys,

I am interested in doing a FJ sping and bilstein swap. Can anyone that has done this comment on if the minor lift that is realized with this swap affected the gas milage?

Thanks,
~Corey

The lift should have very little impact on your gas mileage. On the other hand, larger tires to compliment the lift can make a pretty big difference.

So many options for my 2007 Limited

First of all thanks swamp rider for the great info. My only question is on the wheel tire combos for the lifts, i assume they have no spacers...? If they were 1.25" out would there be less rubbing issues?

After a mind numbing amount of time spent on here I have a pretty good idea of what I want my 4runner to look like but the options are endless.

Lifts: 3/2...ish Toytech, Cornfed or Daystar?
Spacers: 1.25" spidertrax?
Wheels and tires: Powdercoat the stock 18"s? and then go with a 275/65???

Any info or personal opinions would be great, and throwing in some prices would be helpful.

and finally, does a 32" tire fit in the spare well, a 33" maybe???

thanks so much!

Wheel spacers will cause more rubbing. The info posted is without spacers. IMO any of those spacer lifts will work. Decide if you want 2.5" or 3", then buy based on price. For wheel spacers, look into all pro hub centric spacers. They are a silver finish which I prefer over the blue spidertrax, they're cheaper, and on top of that they are currently running a 20% off sale. 275/65 is a great tire choice and that should fit in the spare location. Any bigger may or may not, all depends on the tire and which hitch you have.

FWIW, I have the Daystar 2.5/1.5 with 1.25" spidertrax, and 275/65/18 tires. I did have rubbing up front and had to do some trimming to the wheel wells and front bumper. plus I had to remove the front mud flaps. and yes, I was able to get that size of tire in my stock spare location, with the stock Limited hitch.

Honestly, if a 3/2 spacer lift would have kept me from having to trim my wheel well and bumper, I would have paid the price. But if it would have rubbed the same as the 2.5/1.5 lift, than I'm glad I paid less for the Daystar.

think I'm gonna end up with the fj coils and daystar 2.5, so it should be 3/2 or possibly 3.5/2.5. I'm getting the Goodyear Duratracs, and i know the 275/65/18 will fit great, but does anyone think i'd be able to get away with tucking in the 275/70s???

Do you have v6 or v8? Are you going to run wheel spacers? It'll be more difficult to fit if you are. I believe NorthGA4r is running that size, can't think of many others. Your trimming will be similar to the 285/70/17, the only different will depend on the spacers. Not sure if the body mount will become an issue with that size, haven't seen many running it. 275/65/18 is the safest, but 275/70/18 is doable if you're willing to trim.

gotta v6, which is why i guessed that the fj coils would have a little more effect, at least up front. The only difference in the 65 and 70 duratrac is the height, it's an extra .7 or .8 inches with the 70's. I do have spidertrax also.

Yes, you'll get approx 3.5"/2" with that setup. Read NorthGA4r's thread and maybe reach out to him to see exactly what's required with that setup. Spidertrax make it look killer, but doesn't help trying to fit these tires. My biggest concern would be a body mount chop, which I'm unsure if you'd need. That'd be the major thing to consider.

yea, body mount chop is a little more than i want to do, since it's kinda messing with the integrity of the vehicle... but i certainly would be willing to pull out the dremel if necessary, don't need all that plastic in the fender well anyways! shoot, 70's muscle cars didn't have well fillers, they seemed to manage alright:hatsoff:

thanks for the info, your ride will look similar to mine (or at least i would like mine to look like yours)

just wondering if you think you had to do the extra trimming due to the spidertrax or would you have to had done it anyway. I am comparing the cornfed 3/2 to the DS 2.5/1.5 and still on the fence... 4 wheel parts on I70 will sell the DS, install it and align it for pretty cheap

no problem!

I would have gone spidertrax either way. I love the look of our 4Runners with spidertrax. The trimming wasn't much and is hardly noticeable.

I had mine done at 4 wheel parts in Westminster. Overall, a very good shop but I had to take my truck back in because the alignment wasn't done quite properly (it was pulling a bit on the highway initially).
