Look into switchbacks. I'm not sure with the T4R, but I had them on my 3000GT and they were great. White when DRLs and amber when flashing (for legality)

Aren't the switchbacks used when you have a two filament bulb like the 1157? the DRL/turn signals in my 08 T4R are 1156s so that means single filament.

I'm finding that (for my '04 at least) it takes 4157 bulbs. Which are dual filament.
For my 08 it uses the 1156 single filament so you'd need some sort of logic board to determine when to have it on clear for DRL and when to flash the Amber for turn signals. I'd settle for a LED compliant flasher relay for the 08....I thought I found one at Super Brite LED, but can't get confirmation of it working with the DRL package. :-( I just sent with Silverstar incandescent bulbs for the time being. I wish I could set the flash to flash the 194A amber parking indicator bulbs as the turn signal instead of the DRLs.

You might try looking at theretrofitsource.com for bits and parts and bulbs. They have all kinds of stuff for custom jobs (if you'd wanna make more of a project of it) and can have some pretty good clearance deals (I found a set of 9012 LEDs - the ones in my signature pic - for $35 and retrofitted em for the 9006 housings by trimming one of the tabs. They usually run $100+).

I'm going through my vehicle and installing LED's throughout the vehicle. I too and the snag with the turn signals flashing fast. I got the replacement LED (flasher (not sure on name) and was told to replace part 81980-35020, but for the life of me, I cannot find that part! Some same it can be done, some say it's behind the fuse box and the part looks totally different. As of now, I don't know what to do and I'm thinking of just using regular bulbs for the turn signals. I do have running lights.

The turn signal relay is behind the fuse box, or "Junction Block". I personally replaced all of my turn indicators with LEDs and the SmartTap module that Diode Dynamics sells.

I didn't take any pictures while I did the work, but you'll need to remove the under-dash housing, unplug some of the plugs going into the "Junction Block", and undo some screws if I remember correctly. Then you can maneuver the Junction Block so you have access to the backside, unplug the original flasher relay, and replace it with your LED flasher relay.
If that whole area looks different to you, you should probably post a photo.
EDITED TO ADD:
I just noticed that you said you have daytime running lights. I think I read that it's different for 4Runners with DRLs. At the very least, Diode Dynamics says their SmartTap module is not compatible with trucks equipped with DRLs. Unfortunately I can't help you there since my truck wasn't configured with DRLs from factory.

I found more info for you, the relays are definitely different between non-DRL and DRL equipped 4Runners. But there is an adapter available that apparently Toyota does make. More info here: 4th Gen flasher relay | Tacoma World

The correct part # for the adapter is 82241-35010
Related story, a fellow member actually wanted DRLs on his non-DRL 4th gen so I sent him my old DRL type relay to test, since I wasn't sure if the body ECU has the DRL "trigger signal" programmed from the factory. Luckily it worked and he sent me the 12-8 pin adapter harness and non-DRL flasher as an exchange.

Thanks for the replies and help. I just noticed the replies, I subscribed to topic but was expecting an email or something!! I got the new relay, but when I pulled my fuse box forward during my remote start install, I saw four smaller blue relays and one larger black one that was four times the size of the new one! I wasn't sure which one it was!!

For anyone following this, Diode Dynamics' FAQs say they usually run two sales a year, 4th of July & Black Friday, so I'm going to check the sale price on the bulbs & resistors when July rolls around.
