4WD Light on the fritz

… blinking 4wd light but 4wd did work, has progressed to not engaging all the time. Light blinks like there’s trouble and light sporadically blinks like there a short. I pulled all electrical connectors and cleans them with electrical contact cleaner and applied dielectric grease to keep them clean and clear. Is this a simple replacement of the shift assembly in the front end or a relay somewhere?

Well it's as I feared, some idiot (me) didn't secure the wiring loom well enough when installing the motor w/headers and heat +contact with wires = bad. So with a ECU, diagnostics, and wire harness repair I'm at $625. Not bad and it'll be ready today

there are some threads on here about the sensors in the diff case that can cause the light to blink

Please post year and type of transmission (5-speed, auto J-shift, multi-mode) on something like this. There are many different setups and no one can give intelligent advice without knowing what you have.

The problem is solved gentlemen, post #2 covered that. I have a 2002 auto trans 4Runner. The difference between my flashing light and ALL the others is that my 4WD WOULD engage occasionally. Every other unit has a faulty shift solenoid.
