4x4 shifter console in a 2x4?

I was researching the shifter bushing for my friend's 93' 2wd T4R. Looking thru the diagrams, shows the 2 lever shifter assembly for 4x4, but could not find the same shifter for his single shifter. It's the one with the button on the sides and the OD button on the back. Which made me wonder if the same console could be used, even if the 4x4 shifter lever is not connected.
