5k maintenance

Ok, time to do a 5k maintenance. Anything special I should know? I do have a few questions.

83ft.lbs for tire rotation? I plan on doing a 5 point rotation.

As for grease, I have a 07 v6, 4wd. I count... 8 joints i need to grease? 6-u joints, 2 slip joints... i read somewhere that there is one on each end of the driveshaft.... I'm confused. I've search for the last hour to no avail, but at least I'm avoiding studying for my midterm tomorrow ;-) Pics please?

Anything I miss: 1) oil 2)rotation 3)grease

I'd check engine and A/C air filters. I waited too long (20,000miles) and it was nasty.

There should only be six zerks total for both driveshafts. Two are for the u-joints and only slip-joint. Check out Buckfever's thread.

Update: I bought 10 quarts of Mobil 1 and a filter at Wal-mart for $40. Holla!

I think I found all six zerks:
- One at each end of the drivetrain (2)
- one at the back end of the drivetrain, aka slip (1)

x2 for the 4wd = 6. I get them all?

I think the Toyota OEM filter - the one made in Thailand is one of the few that has the back flow valve on it. This keeps the oil up in the engine after you turn it off helping lubrication right after start. The Fram probably does not have that.

It seems like you are taking very good care of your car and this may be important to you.

Am I correct about the filter guys?

Well, haven't heard much about it on this forum...but over at the XJ (cherokee) forum, they pretty much swear against (using) it...FRAM oil filters.

The two arguments for XJs is that is can cause lower oil pressure and cause a delay in the build up of oil pressure on a cold startup...

$7-$8 I think. You can buy them in bulk on-line. I don't know for sure because I get them for the Toyota employee price at the dealer.

The Thai-made OEM filters are under $6 at my dealer. They're also cheaper on the Internet, but you'd need to buy a few at a time to make the shipping worthwhile. Part number for the Thai filter is 90915-YZZD1 for the V6 size, or 90915-YZZD3 for the V8. (They're the same thread and diameter - the V8 is about 1/2-inch longer.)

You should find a forum sponsor at the top of the page and there are a bunch of Toyota discount places on the web. I believe the standard box is 10 filters if you want to order the OEM filter in bulk.
