5spd swap on my 97 limited need help!

I've been following this thread and taking notes. Getting ready to attempt this swap myself, still looking for a clutch pedal though.

Awesome! I'll take more pictures tonight since everything is still apart and attempt to make this post more detailed!

Here's some progress pictures from today. Man getting that master cylinder holes to work with previous hole already there I'm pretty impressed with myself. Even lined up the inside bolt. Only thing needed for the master is patch that oversized hole I had already for wires.

I wasn't aware that the hole in the floor had to be cut open bigger like that, learning all kinds of stuff.

got some done today. transmission was supposed to be mounted but toyota kinda lied on arrival date of the pivot ball for the clutch fork so i ordered in the states and will be crossing the border tuesday to pick it up!

today i finished up the clutch master cylinder, and did my brakes even with the tundras i still managed to warp the rotors (guessing too much hill braking but ill be checking the rear drums maybe they werent adjusted properly)

I also purchased a 2 day pass for the toyota diagrams i just downloaded 97 and 99 EWDs and will be charting it all out for a repin. ill be attemping the repin this weekend. after the repin all that is needed is throw the transmission in fill all the fluids and give it a crank! getting closer and closer each day!

okay so i charted everything out for the ll3 and ll2 plugs.

everything either matches or needs to get swap or isnt used for the 5spd.

what i could not figure out is where these pins from the 99 plug goes to the 97

pin 14 PTNK R-W
pin 26 TPC Y-G
pin 6 HTS R-W
pin 13 OXS R

maybe someone could help me out here? or i was planning to just leave them unplugged and see if it works.

my other problem i ran into was swithcing from a 2-4 selector button to a jshifter. my 97 used the 4wd ecu to activate the ADD and the 99 uses a relay to activate the ADD anyone know what i can do to make the jshifter work?

sooo close! any help works! THANKS!

Those four pins are like the one we discussed. As long as you are using the '97 harness to connect to the exhaust sensors AND the charcoal canister on the firewall, then all those connections will get made by the '97 harness without going through II3. So just let them deadend on the truckside ('99 side). I'd be curious to know if there are any wires on those II3 pins on the '97 side and what color they are. I'm hoping they are just empty and then I'd feel real good about this answer.

I honestly have no idea on how you could make the auto 4wd ECU work to control the ADD from a J-shift. I've never worked with one (I am strictly a five speed guy), so that does not mean it's not possible. It probably is. It just means I don't know how to do it and I would not feel confident in guessing. If someone has done it, listen to them. My issue is we don't get internal diagrams for these black boxes, so figuring out how exactly they work is a guessing process.

So if I were doing it, I'd convert to the manual 4wd relay, but that's because it's simpler and I understand it perfectly.

Do you mean the 97 dash harness? Becuase I'm using the 99 engine harness and ecu.

4x4 should work since I'm using the engine harness as well. If not I need to put a switch to the tcase. Thanks!

O, crap!!! I had it backwards. I thought you were putting a '97 ECU and harness on a '99 truck. I'm not sure when I got turned around. I'm very sorry. I'll look at that again tonight.

i sent you a pm about it but i think i figured it out! since its coming from the ll3 plug and calls for it in the ecm. im going to unplug it from the 99 ll3 side and put it to the correct spots its called for on the ecu plugs (which are the dash harness plugs)

thats for PTNK, TPC, HTS, and OXS. for NSW i cannot find but both electrical diagrams show its only for the A/T transmissions so i could leave that unplugged unless you can trace it for me and find out where it goes.

NSW is called for at the ecu on both the 99 and 97 ecu but i do not know where i would find the wire. as it was connected to my 97 engine harness.

on the 97 the black nsw wire starts at st2 which is the ignition switch and goes to the ecu. but also branches to the starter relay changing colours to B-R going to the clutch cancel and clutch start.

The starting circuit seems confusing but it is not that difficult. In the 97 auto the staring circuit ends in the park/neutral switch which simply grounds the wire in park to compete the circuit and open the relays, You need to find that wire (its easiest in the II3 plug in my opinion), pull it on the dash side of the plug and run it over to the clutch. Or you can simply ground it to any point and it will always start wether its in gear or not

i dont know why toyota decided to swap pins and plugs and wires throughout the years but its messed! started to repin it was going smooth. i finished repining the dash harness and went onto the ll3 plug and it went from a big pin which had to fit into a small pin slot! no idea if im doing it correctly at this point but im pretty done right now. ill update again if i ever get this thing to work.

98-02 is plug and play between auto harness/Ecu and manual

HOLY JESUS. I'M DONE! She's together, repinned and running good fired it up with no codes!

Only hiccups was my exhaust wasn't tightened and I thought my truck was on fire. And the obd wasn't reading but my friend figured it out and we had to repin the data wire on the obd plug.

After I relax a bit I'll post up more info on the repining and swap. Huge thank you to everyone that helped out along the way. Charlies, TheDurk, st runner, and kolelt! You guys rock!

Did my repin chart help for the dash harness ??

Congrats
