5th Gen 4Runner Lift Buyers Guide

Sorry thanks for the reply, i just like to get second answers just to make sure, i know were getting the same set up but do you think there will be potential problems down the road of this set up? Im asking cause this is my daily driver but most of my driving is 95%highway commute.

No worries. I bought my ride brand new in 2011 and am primarily on road with occasional light off-road use. I am just now getting close to lifting it because of concerns I have had and problems it may create. Analysis paralysis. The forum is a great tool though. I believe we will be running very similar if not exact set-ups.

So, any info or problems we may run into...with the set up? Sorry for being so paranoid about this..lol cv boots...ball joints ? 4wheel parts will be doing my labor and alignment and they acted like i shouldnt have any problems of going 2.5 fronts and 1.5 setting rears.

That's my understanding for the most part. Cv angles should be fine at 2.5 as well as stock UCA's. As far as ball joints, idk. My guess is that some components may experience accelerated wear, but not much more than stock. To me, the improved handling and look are more important. I'm sure others can speak much more/better to it, but the big difference in what else should be upgraded, and where more problems come in, is at the 3" or higher mark.

And don't worry about the paranoia I have been/ am in the same place to an extent, but ready to get it done.

Thanks, bro. !

Front - struts preassemebled by Wheeler’s Offroad (Bilstien 5100 shocks set at 0, 2 1/2” Toytech lift spring, new bushings) & 1/4” spacer on front driver-side, Total Chaos uniball upper control arms.
Rear - (Bilstien 5100 shocks & OME HD 2” lift springs).
Differential drop.

I am very happy about the ride / handling improvement. It’s still comfortable and not at all bouncy or harsh. The body roll and break dive is greatly reduced. I also like the slight ground clearance improvement. As far as looks, I think it’s only slightly noticable to the untrained eye unless they're really paying attention. It does make the tires look a little smaller. Toytech & Wheeler’s were very helpful.
Thanks for your help everyone!
JD

Safe to say that I'm an amateur when it comes to lifts, although this write-up has helped a lot. Im at a sort of standstill regarding how to progress further in my build. I have a 2014 SR5 that was purchased two months ago, since that time I have stumbled upon this website through my interests in lifting my runner and adding some larger tires.

A little background...

At the time of purchase I did not know that there were aftermarket shocks (bilstein 5100s, if I'm not mistaken). Once I got down to examining the T4R further, I noticed that the shocks were, in fact, not stock. I have a few questions to ask the pro's out here.

- Are the front shocks the adjustable 5100s? If so, what setting are they at?
- The rear only has the 5100s. Am I correct in understanding that I will need aftermarket coils or spacers to achieve a lift? Which option is superior? If coils are superior, do you guys have any suggestions? (I'd like to get close to 2-3" if possible, leveled)

Please feel free to correct me on any detail I may have stated incorrectly, I'm here humbly asking for help!

Thanks

Sorry about the size of the attachments.

The notches in your front shocks say they are the adjustable kind. I can't be positive but they look like they may be set at the 2nd notch (0.85"). As far as recommendations for the rear, I would ask do you plan to off road it much, or stay on the civil path? If planning to off road regularly I would recommend springs over spacers, but that would just be my choice. Some folks off road fine with spacers back there.

I'll be hitting a fair amount of trails, that's for sure. My job allows me to travel all over the states, so the environments will be different each location. Do you have any recommendations for coils?

Btw, where in LA are you?

West central near Fort Polk. I'm running Toytec Superflex +10% coils for 2" of lift in the rear unloaded. But I really don't want you to narrow down to just those for a choice. It should be made depending on your load expectations. Study up on what's available before you make a decision. Read some of the build threads stacked at the top of the page.

And of course here. Most of the available kits are covered.

Oh, no doubt. I'm still in the researching process.

My home is Lake Charles, although I'm all over for work.

Thanks for the input.

Those are for sure bilstein 5100s set on the first or second notch. To lift the rear you can go with a 1.5" daystar spacer or icon makes some really nice 2" rear coils that a lot of members here go with. Spacer is about 40, coils are around 220.

'Preciate the advice brother. Gonna do a little more research and get that bad boy lifted.

Bilstein 5100 .85/ toytec 112620 lift

Anyone has a set up Bilstein 5100s fronts set @.85 and installed Toytec 112620 springs? i was wondering how much of a lift did you get from that set up and measurements from ground to fenders? From my understanding the Toytec 112620 is 1.6 and if you set the bilsteins @.85 your suppose to get a lift around 2.5".

Hey guys - I'm hoping someone can lend a hand here. I have a 2012 Limited at home that now belongs to the wife and am looking at picking up a 2nd 4R. A really nice '15 just popped up at a local VW dealer that has a dealer installed lift on it. My belief is that it's just the Toytec spacers but I'm not sure. Can anyone tell from these pics what is on there? I did call the parts department of the original dealership and they said all that they could confirm was that it was from Toytec. Just want to know what I'm getting myself into and any potential issues down the road. Sorry for the crappy iphone pictures. Thanks!

I did confirm that they are just the Toytec spacer kit that were installed at the dealer which should be fine since 90% of my time is spent on the road. Thanks for the input.

Im thinking about getting the totytec Ultimate coilovers but replacing the springs with OME 885s.

I have a winch i need to install. Will the 885's be too stiff with the winch installed? It's a smittybuilt XRC 9500 (weighs about 85 lbs).

Would this be a bad idea to get? Would i be fine with the coils that come with the ultimate coilover?

Mine rides fairly soft on 885's with ~140 lbs of winch and bumper. You should be fine. Maybe a little stiffer but not too bad.

Hey, can anyone help identify this lift? I recently purchased a 2010 Limited, and the dealer says its a leveling kit.

From what I can tell, the front has a 1.25" toytec spacer, but the shocks look after market, and it seems to be sitting higher than just a leveling kit.
