5th Gen 4Runner Lift Buyers Guide

Yea, I was thinking that. Will I have to do the rear as well?...and will I need to replace all springs?

No and no. I started out with just four 5100's with the fronts bumped up to 1.75". I have since moved on, but you will be fine with just fronts and the factory springs as an initial investment. Mind you, you will need to limit yourself to about 1.75" in the front if you don't change rear springs and shocks. Or you will end up with a pretty severe reverse rake. The picture below is at 1.75 front with factory springs all around. And 3 years later I am still running 265's.

If I end up doing the rear anyways...are the bilsteins set to stock height in the rear? Will 1.75" in the front only be good enough to clear 275's?

You can run a 275 without any lift at all. You can actually squeeze a 285 without any lift. Usually all you have to do is remove the front mud flaps. I just got my new rims yesterday and ill be mounting my 285/70/17 on them today. I will test fit them on my 2016 which is currently not lifted and ill post pictures. 3" ToyTec boss lift is here I just don't have time to install it yet. You should look into the same lift. Really can't get better for the money and it's all bolt in and go.

Thanks, let me know how the 285's fit. I'm still thinking about it. I don't do a any wheeling...I just need to get certain places that are off-road. So, I'm still undecided if I want anything bigger than a 265. I like the gas mileage I am at now. I don't want to replace any UCA's either or start playing the gears game. I just want a "tad bit" more clearance and the looks as well without the use of spacers.

There is no adjustment for the rear 5100's. They are simply a little longer to allow for lift via springs or spacers. The only adjustment notches are on the front shocks. I have been perfectly happy off roading with the 265/70's I have stuck with. The added lift up front was helpful, but like you I didn't want to impact my mileage too much. I occasionally get pressure from friends in here to go to 275 or 285 tires. So far I have stayed the course, and I do some pretty fair to middling trails with no problems.

So I'm planning on doing the Revtek 432 3"/2" lift on my 2010 4runner. I am looking for something that keeps the front a bit lower than the rear. Does this kit do that?

Finally pulled the trigger on a lift and couldn't be happier with it.
Went with Bilstein 6112 up front (set to 2.21") and 5100's in the rear with Wheelers T13 springs (adds 1.5")
The ride is stiffened up in a good way, and when I took it offroad I am VERY pleased with the results. Was climbing things with no scraping that before kept me a little puckered.

I've seen a lot of folks lifting with the 1.75 setting on Bilsteins in the front and 1" spacers in the rear, which is a straightforward lift to start with. I'm wondering if you wanted to go with bigger coils in the back instead of the spacer, which springs would make the most sense? Most of the rear coils I'm seeing start at 1.5" of lift, and I'm worried I'd end up with a forward rake again. Im not planning to get bigger tires yet, so I don't want to lift the front any further than 1.75 for now.

Thanks!

If you want 1" or less you're pretty much stuck with spacers in the back.

The only spring option I know of that is less then the new wheelers t13 (1.5") is the dobinson offering at .75-1" lift. Check their options here.

Anyone know the cross compatibility with fj cruiser suspension??

Reason being found a great deal on used kings checked kings website but the list different part numbers for the fj and 4runner? Emailed king yesterday with no reply back, but I know my 5100's and others list the fj with the same part number.

You can get a used TRD Pro suspension and get around 1" of lift

Nice! Any particular reason you went with the 5100s in the rear rather than the 5160s? I'm planning a similar lift and am going back and forth between the two. Thinking about 2.5" in the front, but then I may need/want to update the UCAs.

It'll fit

i have a stock 14 sr5p, and after lurking on the site for a while decided on the bilstein setup. Anyone have a good recommendation of where to get the correct shocks from? Was looking at the 5100's, but the mention of the 6112 is intriguing. Do I need anything other than the shocks themselves? Im looking to do 1.75" in the front and stock height in the back (ok with level/very slight negative body rake). Would like to upgrade tires, but seems like 285/70/17's will rub a bit at that lift. Would 275/70/17's be ok? Looking at cooper at3's or nitto terra grappler g2's

Check out Toyteclifts.com You should be fine with a 285 with that lift. I'm running a 285 with no lift and I have next to no rubbing at all. Slight fender liner trimming and a 285 fits completely stock. Now with that said, i'm sure they'd rub all over if I wheeled it hard but on the street they're fine.

Installed my ToyTec Ultimate kit last night. Had to decrease the preload on the passenger side coilover significantly. Is this normal?

I have the toytech 3"spacer and rear coil kit, looking to put the Bilstein adjustable shocks on I would like to know what setting to put the front on though? I cant find anything

Local tire and off road shops are telling me I can achieve the same look as an icon stage 2 with just a spacer lift. Is this true? All the really good looking rigs I click on state full suspension lifts. (For wife's car, not much off road)
