5th Gen 4Runner Lift Buyers Guide

I am too looking for suspension for my 18 TRD Off-road. Figure on a brand new truck I may as well do it right. I am looking at King coilovers for the front, king shocks for the rear, Toytech rear springs and front diff drop.

I am looking at either the SPC racing, Camburg, or Total Chaos upper control arms. Anyone have any recommendations for the UCA? I like the adjustability of the SPC racing but also want something simple that I don't have to worry about. I am leaning towards the Camburg but would like some input. I know the uniball will be noisy but I want something that will last. I don't mind doing maintenance and all that.

had the 6112/5160 set up and now have icons in front. loved my 6112s and if thats all you know, you'll love them too. the icon valving is way smoother.

6112s will get you a little over 2.5 max in front on an otherwise stock setup. you will need UCAs and alignment with increased caster if you go up to 2.5

Thanks for your help....what height could I get away with without UCAs?

Wouldn't it make more sense for me just to get a Daystar spacer kit?

https://www.amazon.com/Daystar-4Run...show_all_btm?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=all_reviews

Seems like people are happy with it based on reviews and I've seen other people on the forum with it too.

In my 2014 4runner I ran 5100’s up front on stock coils set at max height I think about 2.5 inch lift in front. I had daystar 1.5 inch spacers in the rear. I was able to fit 285/70 17 duratracs on my runner. Although I had a lot of adjustments to the wheel well and had to remove mud flaps and a little fender shaving to get them to fit. Worked fine as a DD and weekend camping rig.

I did have to give up ride comfort and had to accept a stiffer ride with more body roll.

I sold my rig last week and I am starting over. I would not spend less than 1500 or so on lifting your rig. It is your comfort and safety you will be giving up. This is your first lift so you will have to learn as I did. Or listen to these guys and do it right the first time. This is what I just ordered for my stock ride this time round.

I got bilstein 6112 front
Bilstein 5160 rear
Toytec superflex coils with a 2 inch rear lift
Camburg upper control arms

This is the base minimum I would use if modifying my suspension. It allows for a great safe ride while getting a little bit meaner stance I am looking for.

Thanks very much for your info.

Upon further research, I think I'm going to shy away from going with 285s. 275s and maybe even 265s are more likely at this point. I don't like the idea of having to do a bunch of modifications just to get the 285s to not rub.

At the end of the day I am going to be on the road 99% of the time, and the Daystar route is a cheap and easy option to test out. I'd rather try this option first and fail than go the other way, spend a bunch of money and not be happy with it.

Bilstein 5100 Question

I just installed 5100 all around and now the truck says multi-terrain cannot be selected and my abs light is on. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Does anyone what kind of spacer these are? It's used but he said it came off of a nice 4runner and they are steel but selling it at a great price. Said it's a 2.5/1 lift.

The uca’s look like the eBay kind.. Not sure about the spacers.

Look up Zero Point Calibration, (from what I've gleaned from reading the forums) sometimes if the lift is too great from the factory settings the yaw and acceleration sensor in your 4Runner goes a bit wonky.

I'm running 275s on my rig without any issues but it has the stock suspension so I'm not sure what affect lifting has on the different clearance points.

Hey all, Pretty new to the 4runner world and looking for some input. I just bought a 16 sr5 and wanted to give it a better look and stance. Coming from the Jeep world, I was able to lift 2.5" and get 35's underneath(this was back in college) I have a sales position and do some driving for it so I would prefer not to kill the gas mileage and dont want the ride to change to much.I read earlier in another thread about the Fox 2.0 kit that puts new coils in the front giving 2" of lift up front and utilizes stock shocks and a spacer for the back for about an inch. I cannot seem to find a link with this kit. Can anyone help me find it?

Thanks from a newbie

Update....
Ordered the Bilstein kit from this thread http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...rd-pro-suspension-kit-sale-ptr13-35140-a.html

This should go quite nicely with the 265 KO2s I ordered; it's a 1" lift.
Returning the Daystar kit

Can anyone running a Toytec Boss kit on a 5th gen give me some insight on how it rides on-road? I'm torn between that and the OME kit, but I've read OME rides stiff at stock weight even with the light-duty coils. I have a SSO front bumper I plan on adding a winch to, but have no plans to install anything in the back such as, drawers, fridge etc. Maybe a rear bumper/tire carrier further down the road but, not soon enough to worry about heavier rear coils.

Also what UCAs are you running with the Toytec kit and why? Total Chaos is the goal, but I'm having trouble justifying the added cost over SPC.

Thanks in advance!

Another data point...Bilstein 5100 set to 1.75” and 1.5” rear spacers with stock tire size.

I find the Toytec boss to be quite civilized on the road. Firm yet smooth. I find it’s better than stock as there is little body roll and nose dive. Just give it a little time to settle and break in.

I also just changed the UCAs from stock to the Icon tubular UCAs with delta joint. They were a little pricey but I liked that icon seems to have great confidence in them and offers lifetime warranty on the arms and 5 year on the Joint. If it wasn’t the icons I would have went with the JBA ucas.

Changing the upper control arms to aftermarket with added castor is a must with over 2” of lift. With stock the vehicle felt unstable on the highway and in the wind it was downright dangerous.

Hope this helps.

2016 Trail non KDSS

Hey guys. Pretty new to the game here. I need to start somewhere. First thing I am hung up on is the NON-KDSS my 4Runner doesn’t have. I’d like some suggestions on how to make the suspension a little more stable without. I have been thinking about 5100s all around with new springs out back. I don’t know if I want the spacers. Can I build off of 5100s in the future? I’d love to afford coilover systems but the wallet isn’t neverending. I think that’s where I want to start. Suspension and possible lift. Then everything else will fall in. Like air intake, tires, etc

I've been looking around at photos and all kinds of lift related threads and one question.

1. Will I retain a minimal factory rake with a 2.25" front + 1.5" rear spacer lift for a trail with KDSS? Or should I do a 2" front spacer.

I hear some 2.5 front spacers with the 1.5 rear lift can sometimes result with a reverse rake, so I want to avoid that, along with keep a small factory rake (in case I have passengers in the back)
