5th Gen and motion sickness???!!!

Before I say anything else- A happy thanksgiving to you all.

Alright, so here is my question- I was recently speaking with a friend of mine who told me that the reason he did not buy a 5th gen is because he had heard that people in the backseat often feel sick because of ' all the swaying and bobbing'. And then I happened to look at the stupid CR video where they evaluated the 5th Gen and the woman in the video said the same.

Is this true?
I would love to hear from owners- have they had this experience? We also have a dog- have any of your dogs gotten sick in the very back? Would love to hear.

Well I've only taken my truck on one trip...3.5 hours both ways.

However, on the way back I had 3 very hungover individuals in the backseat and they never complained about it.

I've never had anyone complain driving around town either.

Not here. I've got a limited, and I've driven with a full load to Fayetteville, AR and back. No complaints, no sickness. In fact, the people in the back loved the reclining seats and were really enjoying the ride.

Dog loves it back there, as always.

None whatsoever with plenty of passengers and the ride has been great. However, I do have the Limited with X-REAS and I am sure that helps reduce the sway and bob.

It has the same rear suspension as the 2nd gen, 3rd gen, 4th gen, along with the FJ Cruiser, so I don't see why anyone would feel more sick in the fifth gen than one of the other ones I listed. It does weight a bit more but don't think that would be the cause. I do know that my passengers complain that the seats are a bit too stiff, so perhaps that is the reason why people might feel more motion sick in the 5th gen compared to the others.

Yes I have an Sr5 and it does shake or move around. This is the one thing I hate. You can feel almost every bump. It does cause motion sickness also. But then again it is a body on frame truck so it is going to shake around.

I think the driver has to get use to the vehicle first.

When my wife first test drove the car at the dealership, my kids did complain of motion sickness. My thoughts are she is not use to the vehicle yet and as a result the vehicle lurched backwards when she accelerated or pitch forward when she braked. She complained about the same things as the reviewer on Consumer Report video did (ie too high, motion sickness, no power-assist in closing the back door etc) without even viewing the video. i told her no way i am buying the all new Honda Odyssey, not driving a van. We'll have 3rd row seating. She drives the MDX.

I bought the 4Runner for me and loved it. It's not a "mommy" car for sure. Now, she and my kids think the ride is fine and no motion sickness.

I got SR5 too, but didn't hear any complains from passengers. My wife said that it's the first vehicle she can comfortable read a book on the move. Guess it depends on how to drive, if you are first to start from traffic light and brake hard all the time then motion sickness might be a possibility. Find somebody with 4Runner around and take a trip a as passenger to see it yourself.

My wife is very prone to motion sickness. We took an extended test-drive (hours) in a 2010 SR5 that included all sorts of driving - city, highway, winding paved roads, dirt roads. We both felt that the T4R hopped on bumps and swayed more in turns than any car or truck we've owned in the past decade (2 Toyota trucks, a Subaru, and a Honda Pilot) However, we were specifically looking out for motion sickness issues, and found none - no complaints from our 7 y.o. daughter in the backseat, either.

I've also driven a TE with KDSS. I found the drive difference compared to the SR5 to be far less noticeable than expected, based on what I'd read.

I have had 2 people brother and sister say they get it in there. They are prone to motion sickness though. Also I think it's the suspension. Once I do the suspension swap to something more stiff I think it will help.

Thanks a lot for the replies all. So it looks like while most people do no experience motion sickness, there are a few that do. Based upon the replies, it also seems like people with LTD have less of these issues. Would that be a fair assessment?

Wha? My dog and my ex GF (in that order) are prone to motion sickness. Neither have complained.

Was taking the lab to the cottage last winter in SR5. Not smoothest of roads, twisty, hilly. She was just a pup then. Riding in front passenger seat. All of sudden I smelled dog food, WTF?
Look down, she had filled the cup holder with her breakfast. I stopped, pulled out the rubber cup holder, dumped it, rinsed with snow, we're good to go.
She never did it again (except once on blanket in back seat of Panamera, but that was my fault for hooning the way I was.)
