No vibs at all. If the slot tilt forward (opposite of mine) they will be noisier. The direction is dictated by the internal cooling vanes, not the slots. Some rotors use forward slots and some don't, all that matters is the vane direction. Some rotors have bi-directional cooling vanes so the direction of the slots don't matter. I used brake caliper spray paint from AutoZone. I took the pic before painting the caliper. I also found the metallic pads to be too noisy.

Have you hit the brakes hard enough for brake assist to kick in? If not, try it, then let me know if you think if the 4R needs new brakes!
This thing can stop, and fast, when needed. It is just a learning curve to adjust to it (just like the other pedal that other people complain about).

.I think they perform quite well. I've had to jam them hard twice, and they actually surprised me.

i too don't care for the brakes and that assisted braking device.. one day i was traveling down the road and the light turned yellow and i though it'd pull through it but decided not to and got on the brakes hard but it did something weird and took control of the braking basically slamming them full force and it felt like abs was involved (dry road).. its def weird and will take getting used to.. but i really wish they would have left it the way the old system was.. i hate all this elec controlled crap on cars these days.. especially throttle (like how on the 4runner if u put it in drive and hit the gas quickly it'll just lag for a couple seconds then lurch forward) just give me my cable throttle and original brakes and booster designs.. i did just fine with them.. (they are just aiding to those who aren't "drivers", which yes i'm sure that's most people.. but.. cmonnnn)
like the throttle issues.. is probably so people don't slam their gears when putting it in drive therefore ruining a trans at 100k vs 200k.. but all in all.. its workable and i can deal with it (i'd hate to own a elec controlled throttle on manual trans.. that'd just iss me off LOL)
i don't think changing pads will do much.. the most i could see changing the issue with the squishyness would be to do SS lines.. they've tightened up my feel on my previous cars.

The brake assist engages (applies full braking pressure) when the system senses a panic stop. The system was designed for people (most) who let up on the brake pedal because the brakes will not lock or stop because the anti-lock braking is engaged. It is a good system that just takes getting used to (just like traction and stability control).

Toyota could stand to improve the general, around-town feel of the brakes. They don't always seem linear. For panic stops; however, they work just fine. I had to do a full pedal on the floor, everything she could give me, 60 to zero stop. First thought was that I was going to hit the car stopped broadside in my lane but it hauled down to a stop without drama (SR5, stock suspension and stock tires)....the drama then unfolded in the review mirror as cars behind me tried to stop.

Tires make a huge difference in stopping distance. Only thing an upgraded pad will let you do is stop more often without them getting over heated. If its the initial stop you're talking about then swap out your tires. This was talked about greatly on my other forum. Then again we were talking about summer tires over there.
No real complaints about the brakes of the 4R once you're used to them, but they are VERY different from other cars. Every time I travel and get a rental car (like now) I nearly snap my neck the first few times I hit the brakes. I've gotten used to really having to push down on them; other vehicles aren't like that.
