TOTAL CHAOS has been specializing in TOYOTA suspension for over 20 years! When the KDSS model 4Runners came out things got tricky for suspension manufacturers. We are offering both non-kdss and kdss compatible Lower Control Arms for the Toyota 4Runner. These are available in Standard and Race Series (single or dual shock).

  • 3/16" main body stock length fully boxed lower control arms are CNC laser cut and include internal gussets.
  • Boxed arms feature replaceable urethane pivot bushings. Pivots include zerk fitting to maintain the equipment while bolted on the vehicle.
  • 1/4" thick steel skid plate is integrated into the control arm for rock crawling protection.
  • Features a billet machined uniball adapter. Lower ball joints are upgraded to a 1" stainless steel uniball for maximum wheel travel and added component strength.
  • Dual shock capable or Jounce Shock compatible.
  • Weld-on bump stop spacers are included.
  • *These arms will not fit on Hilux Revo or vehicles equipped with KDSS
  • *Not compatible with shocks with bushing lower rod ends.

Nice video guys. Keep up the good work! For anyone thinking about getting Total Chaos don’t second guess it. Well worth it! I have rebuilt stock arms several times with energy bushings and moog ball joints. Just get Total Chaos and call it done and done. Superior design and very easy to maintain
 
Excellent! Something for those of us with KDSS to upgrade to! I have a few questions with these:
- The dual shock version notes that 1.25” spacers are required. Just to clarify, does the single shock version require a spacer? It doesn’t list it but it’s good to know for sure.
- Threads have mentioned that the bushings for the KDSS sway bar ends, when lifted, end up wearing out quicker and cause a clunking or squeaking noise due to the increased angle of the LCA. Has TC addressed the adjusted angle caused by lifting the front end either with a corrected mount or with a custom bushing? Do these arms use the stock bushings?

No worries!

We did not adjust the KDSS mounting to compensate for any specific amount of lift. These do re-use the factory swaybar bushings and we haven't had complaints. Customers currently running TC Lower Control Arms have not shared any clunks or strange suspension noise.

Is that a heim joint rather than a ball joint?

What would the maintenance schedule / service life be on this?

If the maintenace requirement is often, would a delta joint fit and require less regular rebuild?

I see the information lists this as lightest weight aftermarket LCA. What is the weight of the stock LCA? Is this adding to or reducing unsprung weight?

I have the UCA's so I'll chime in on maintenance because it'll be virtually the same. Keep the uni-ball clean from major debris (clean after trips, and wipe down when washing the vehicle). Apply their recommended dry lube if they start making any noise, or apply a little every time you fill up with fuel (my M.O.). Grease the bushings every tire rotation to keep things smooth and quiet. And rebuild when you have constant creaking (even when lubed) or if you have any play in the uni-ball. Properly maintained the uni-balls can go 40k+ without a rebuild from what I have researched.

Thanks for clearing those things up! Good to hear that there hasn't been any reports of strange suspension noises, because those tend to drive me crazy!

Total Chaos LCA

The dual shock LCA looks great. Thanks for building these.
If these were available before I installed my LT lift just 4 months ago I would have gotten them. They'd be hitting the trails already.
 
Very nicely done. How come urethane and not Delrin like other brands have started using? I know some guys don't like that it's a bit more "brittle" then urethane.

In for all the "ooh....ahhhh.....those heims will squeak???!?!?!??! can you make them ball joint instead" comments. lmao
 
If you get the single shock mount what the advantage over stock?

Urathane pivots won't bind like the OEM injection molded bushings, i'm sure they also addressed geometry issues for lifted applications. The entire steering/feeling of the vehicle is tightened up and feels way more solid (no more deflection). It was a HUGE improvement when i went with a similar arm but different brand on my titan.

Thanks I didn't see the video the 1st pass - I think its a bit unfair comparison as thats not how they are actually mounted they only have 1 side in a vice and while theres has a metal sleeve in the video the equivalent would be the OEM bolt that is not in-place - I get the point they are trying to make but would like to see the same test with BOTH sides contained/bolted as it would be when installed and see how much wiggle you get. Next time I have the front end apart I will see how much "play" the OEM ones have when on the truck.

PS - Nothing against TC - everything I have seen is they make great products and if I ever decide to ditch KDSS and go Long travel they would be my pick for control arms.

These arms use a 100% Stainless Steel Uniball instead of a ball joint.

Maintenance and Prep. are huge factors in life expectancy. Living in an area with salt or corrosive chemicals on the roads will require extra maintenance. Here is a video showing uniball maintenance. We have some customers with 30k of hard use and some with nearly 100k and no uniball replacement.

We designed these to work with the Stainless Steel Uniball. The Delta Joint will not work.

The stock arm weighs roughly 15lbs. TC Lower Control Arms only add slightly to the unsprung weight.

Constructed of 4130 chromoly, the Single Shock LCAs are much stronger than stock. These feature Urethane Bushings and a Stainless Steel Uniball for maximum performance. Urethane Bushings smoothly glide on the inner sleeves instead of binding like the OEM bushings. On top of that, these are designed for 2-3” lift applications. No need to worry about issues with suspension geometry and alignment.

I’ll be posting a video later today showing the LCA movement on a vehicle. You can see the arm shifting under an FJ Cruiser. Thanks for posting up!

We've found the polyurethane bushings to be the perfect middle ground between rubber and delrin. Less deflection than rubber, while not so harsh as delrin.

So you guys didn't change the geometry of the KDSS mounts? Are the KDSS bushings still as deformed with a 2-3" lift as they are on stock lca's?

It seems like there could be a solution for different lift heights. maybe the could be few different mounting holes on the bottom half of mount? Anything that could minimize the binding/deformity of that bushing... is it an issue like it is with stock lca's?

We did not change the geometry for the KDSS mounts. Next time we have one in the shop we'll see how the bushings are holding up :)
No complaints have been made.
