5th Gen Lack of Power?

I'm coming from a 4th gen and have about 1500 mile on my 5th gen already. It may just be me or its still new but for approx 40 extra hps it doesn't seem to have any "go". Seems like I really have to put my foot into it to move. Also when I'm in the top gear and letting my foot.off the gas it doesn't "coast" like almost every other vehicle I've ever had...it's like it is kicking right out of the overdrive and slows down very quickly. Anyone else notice a drop in power from the 4th gen or am I over analyzing it?

Not the first to notice it. Toyota placed the power higher in the RPM curve from the 4th gen for fuel economy (thank you CARB!!). To get there, you do have let the rpms get up there... Sorry, did you test drive much? Power is there, but takes more pedal to reach it. Use the s-mode if you want more control over shifting. There are no performance mods, tunes, super chargers or exhaust that make any difference yet. Regearing makes it easier to get rpms quickly.

Pretty much this. It's no Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT but be generous with the pedal and you can make it move ok.

The regearing I believe may lower your MPG.

Thanks for the info. Now I know I'm not losing my mind! Drove it a fair bit and it's my 3rd 4runner so I was use to the 3rd and 4th gens. Loved the look and the way it rode plus got a ton for my 4th gen. I'm sure it's something I'll get use to, just had to make sure it wasn't just me.

Thanks for the info. Now I know I'm not losing my mind! Drove it a fair bit and it's my 3rd 4runner so I was use to the 3rd and 4th gens. Loved the look and the way it rode plus got a ton for my 4th gen. I'm sure it's something I'll get use to, just had to make sure it wasn't just me.

When I want mine to feel fast I drive my fjz80 for a while. That makes my 5th gen feel like a rocket.

Agree. I think of it as a feature since I ride heavy. Saves my brake from having to do all the work.

its a bit slow but at 18.3 MPG I am getting I am happy with it. When I wanted a sport car I drove my 911.

No I was more laughing about it, but your same question gets posed about every 3 months if even that long. I just link to the previous threads, it was nice of him to type out the response.

Not trying to bash mods, but why don't they ever close threads like this since they pop up so often?

The vehicle uses engine braking when you release the gas pedal to help maintain speed if you happen to be going down hill. It can't tell the difference, it just brakes every time. It's nice when trying to coast to a stop though, which helps with mpg.

Ah gotcha. I appreciated his response and figured as much and even tried the search but search works for @$!# on an Android smartphone. Plus it's no worse than some of the other endless threads on here.

i have a 3rd gen just for the bush, ive owned 3 4th gens, i have a 5th gen SR5 and just purchased another 5th gen LIMITED. now the limited feels much slower then my SR5 and im sure thats because the limited is all wheel drive all the time. also, when your in drive and you press the gas, i find it takes a bit more time to get going because the ECO mode has to turn off. Ive found when i have it in Sport mode, the response is much better and goes faster.

if you find its still not enough power, try adding some awesome bumper stickers, ive been told each one can give up to 5hp, that is only if there awesome

I had a sticker stolen, that's right STOLEN, right off of my truck. Does that mean I lost 5hp? I felt it's been a bit sluggish for the past week since some vandal took it off.

True story though. I have a few stickers on the rear hatch window and somebody took the time to just take ONE of them off. It was a "Snowbird" ski resort sticker. They left the other ones alone. I guess they really wanted that sticker for whatever reason. I'm just glad they didn't steal my laptop that was in the car, LOL.

It's not your phone the search just sucks, put "5th Gen" in front of your search term or use the alternate in the stickies, much better. And your right about other threads.
