5th Gen LS460 Projector Retrofit Instal

Hey guys, wanted to post up my LS460 projector retrofit/ install since I haven’t seen one in awhile and just wanted to share this amazing mod!

I’ve been itching to do something with my lighting since I purchased the truck back in Nov of 12. My last vehicle was a 05 TL and as many of you know, have amazing lighting. Fast forward a couple years I decided to pull trigger and contacted Caesar from Lightwerkz to handle my retrofit.

I knew I wanted LS460 Projectors from the beginning due to Jaker’s post back in 2012. Loved how LS projectors filled just about the entire headlight and not to mention their light output is phenomenal.

Big thanks to TRS (The Retrofit Source) for supplying the parts listed below:
2 LS460 Bi-Xenon Projectors with STi-R lenses
2 Morimoto XB35 Ballasts
2 Morimoto XB Igniters
2 D2S: Phillips 85122 Bulbs
HD relay Harness

Decided to go with new OEM headlights from Camelback Toyota, and had them sent directly to Caesar. Used these part numbers for stock 13 limited lights.
Left: 81170-35520
Right: 81130-35520

Big thanks to philsey for his write up! On to the pictures which were taken by my iPhone. Please disregard the messy garage.

Decided this was the best place to mount the relays for the harness.

Mounting the passenger side ballast and ground wire was a bit of a pain do pump? Not sure of the technical name for it. Used double side tape to mount the ballast on the ridge and unbolted a couple of bolts to get my fingers to reach the factory ground bundle.

Testing before reinstalling the bumper. Somehow the image got flipped.

Last but not least, before and after photos!

The LS projectors are the MAC DADDY of projectors, I'm happy for ya. Looks great!!!

Ha, it was mainly cost the time. I didn't feel comfortable spending almost $2k on a mod while I was still paying for the truck.

Looks great though. If it saves you from hitting just one moose, it's worth it. I've considered the conversion, but I'm happy with just my Rigids so far.

Still, it looks cool as ****. I'd love to do it just so I can completely black out the inside of my headlights. Time for a little DIY, perhaps.

Don't get me wrong there are many cheaper alternatives. For example I could have went with a cheaper projector like I did with my 3rd gen. My 3rd gen retrofit ran me about $250 all said and done. Price break down for these are as follows:

New headlights: about $370 (could have sent my used ones in, but I plan on selling my original set to recoup some cost)
TRS: $705 (could have also went with a cheaper projectors and ballasts)
Labor: $755 plus $60ish for Caesar to ship them to me. (again could have done them myself, but after practicing on my 3rd gen I wanted these done professionally since our trucks are still worth $30k +)

Great spread with the LS460s. When I had Caesar do mine he didn't think they would fit. But a couple of members have proved that wrong. Still love mine.

Stiffy how are those AT tires working in Tampa? Good on the cement are they? Need that lift at Costco?

Never heard you comment about the cost of anyone's Rigid LED array.

ATs are doing great, my 4runner has the ability to cross state lines so doing well on pavement and in the mountains of NC and AL. I would say the same about Rigid lights... and have, little rich for my blood!

For all considering doing this, take your time and you can find some smoking deals on here or elsewhere, also a little DIY saves a LOT of money. For me the price break down so far is as follows:

New headlights: $180 shipped, bought used on here from another forum member, but honestly you cant even tell they are used they are in such good condition (and i plan to sell the headlights currently on my truck when i finish my retrofit)
Projectors: $600 for the LS460-R projectors and some other small stuff to help with my retro (from TRS)
Ballasts: $230 for Denso water sealed ballasts, morimoto HIDs and all wiring needed to bridge from the projector to the 4runner from another member on here
Labor: FREE to DIY (well technically my time is worth something but not near as much as what cesar charges, although he does do some beautiful work)
Knowledge gained by doing it myself: priceless. :hippie:

that puts me at about 50% of what the OP paid, so its expensive, but i think its way worth it. And you can always get a less expensive but still badass set of components and still get a great output like [MENTION=45399]thebwlife[/MENTION] did.

EDIT: added a pic of my retrofit stuff in boxes, came in while i was offshore!!! "OMG 4RUNNERS RULEZORZ" provided by [MENTION=101738]gonzanc[/MENTION] the member i bought the ballasts, bulbs and other retrofit infrastructure from.

Mine is a TE - I'm talking about blacking out everything; marker lenses, reflector buckets, and projector shrouds.

I'm not going to buy a second set - my 4runner isn't a daily driver, so it can be out of commission for a while, I'm not scared to screw up, and with the Canadian dollar in the shitter right now, I need to buy as few components as possible for this project.

On a side note, there's currently an eBay listing for a killer set of converted and blacked out 5th gen headlights.
