I also own a 2011 TE Salsa and I too hate the location of the trailer power, as well if they had only put proper tow hooks in proper locations front and rear (especially on a TE).

I have to agree the cargo tray was a good idea but what a waste of space, it should at least be easily removable.

You guys are too easy on me, I would have typically said I will buy all the cold beverages one can drink! Since it was suggested a cold beverage or maybe 2, well I will up the anti, the answer is a dozen for harper since he did all the good work and pics along with infor and 4 for you juast for the thread. Is that fair or what. I am just up the road from you guys in the Vancouver area just a bit north of Seattle (about 3-4 hours) Just drop me a note and it will be cold sittin in the fridge waitin for ya. (EH)

Man, you are right, I actually found the S mode quite useful when cursing on a hilly road. Since the cruise control in the D gear is really annoying when on a long uphill, it just keeps shifting between 4th and 5th and sometimes 3rd gear, it's so annoying to me, so I just put it in the S mode and limited it to the 4th gear and it becomes much better.

My LE plays songs on my phone via Bluetooth just fine, I use it all the time. I have a Samsung windows phone.

I think you're going to see this with the new CEO. Add a nicer interior, a V8 option, and the limited should have all the off road features of the trail edition.

I don't know. The last CEO loved the 4Runner and kept it around. If you really think about it, there is no real reason for it to exist as it currently is. I love my 4Runner, and 4Runners in general, but if I were CEO I would nix it.
Everyone else in the world gets the Prado, which shares the same frame as the Lexus GX and the 4Runner. The body is almost identical to the Lexus which is already here in North America.
It would make more sense to bring us a Prado which already has a V8 and more off road capability. I don't know, IMO I think they should rename it for the North American market and call it a day. Or, just give us a Prado and call it a 4Runner. They are already 80 - 90% there.
Just my opinion.

I see what you mean. I don't have the particulars but two of my very close friends who work at Toyota saw a rendering of what the new 4Runner looks like. It's supposed to be more sporty. Now I'm not sure if it's going to be out in 2013 or if they are going to make it a 2014 model. From what they were told it will debut well before the traditional 7 year life cycle.
I'm not sure what's coming down the pipe but Toyota is hiring 150 engineers to work here in the states on engine/transmission development. The Lexus RX debuted with a transverse 8 speed transmission for the F-Sport model. I think we are going to see a lot of much needed changes.
I've said it once, I'll say it again. As much as I do not like Ford, I'd be foolish not to mention their recent success. Under the leadership of Alan Mulally, Ford was able to make a turnaround in about 6 years. Mulally took over as CEO in 2006. It's going to take Akio about as long too. Either way, it's going to be interesting.

Electrical Issues
I have a 2012 SR5 with no after market mods. I am have some glitches where every now and again the trip odo, the avg mph while reset and the clock will reset. Then the alarm will go off for no reason. A Couple of times, I was not able to use the remote to lock or unlock the doors. Has anyone else had any issues?

My turn:
- driveshaft clunky-thumpy after stop and release brake (Happens infrequent. Aware of TSB and will keep eyes on it)
- 70mph-75mph axle humming noise when gas pedal pressed (Maybe harmonic sound of axle???)
- Various rattle noises:
. Rattles under dash board (Fixed by disconnect wire harness etc)
. Rattle under engine/transmission when in gear or stationary and when start accelerate (Still there)
. Rattle from front bumper when slamming door close (Some loose part near front bumper)
. Rattle from rear brake when slamming door close (I think related to parking brake)

Interior black plastic scuffs very easily and turns a pukeish green color. Super thin sheet metal. Dynamatted the doors and that made a huge difference. Super thin hood. I used expansive sealer from hardware store and shot it between the hood and underside cross braces. Can get very messy but does a great job of eliminating the rippling. Will put dynamat or spray on deadener on the open (single layer sheetmetal) areas.
Slide out tray kind of useless. Took mine out and had uneven, uncarpeted floor. This inspired me to make a floor and now I have a home under the floor for some bad ass amps and DSP for my very soon sound system upgrade.
Steering is really soft but I got used to it. Nose dives when braking but Toytec coilovers solved that.
Overall, love my 5th Gen Trail model. Get nothing but compliments from friends and strangers.

Hey all 5th Gen experts. I have a question for you as I am getting the run around from Toyota. If you have a 2010 4Runner SR5 and your vehicle horn doesnt sound feminine and annoying please let me know how many horns are behind your grill. I am being told that my vehicle only has one and that is how its supposed to be because I dont have the smart key system and its not a limited edition. I have looked in other SR5's and spoke with a previous Toyota technician and have been assured that all toyota vehicles have two horns for the vehicle horn, not including the security horn. If your vehicle has two horns you can see them through the front of the grill to the right of the hood latch. If there is anybody in Tucson with this vehicle and would be ok with me looking under the hood, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the help. 4Runnin

Oh ok, bummer, what a cheeky design, only one horn, and a rather feminine one in the second biggest SUV made by Toyota in my opinion. Just wanted to know if it was wrong from the factory or if I had to install one myself. Thank you for the info and thank you to Pat.
