Just used this method as well…fairly easy and mess free with the right hose to a drain pan. I wasn’t sure at first which line was the return side, but assumed it was the smaller top most line running to the PS fill plastic container…was correct. I went through about 1.5 qts to flush / fill.

correct.. return lines are typically on top... transmission cooler, ps fluid, oil cooler, etc etc.. fluid is pulled from the bottom hoses because of air bubbles and so on that could cause a disruption in the flow of fluid within the hoses. Gravity is more reliable than mechanical/electronic pumps and bubbles should rise to the top before making it into hoses.
