5th generation bluetooth connection issues

Hello fellow 4runner owners...

I have 2011 Limited.. my phone is a Samsung Note 4. It worked flawlessly for a long time... did an update about 6 months ago and it would not allow me to dial from the dash through the speed dials.
I would have to dial from the phone and then audio in and out would kick in and work. I can't tell you how much this pi$$ed me off. I searched for a resolution,, could find anything... not sure if anyone here is having the same issue.

Well.... there's an app that fixes it.

"Bluetooth Auto Connect"
make sure go through the settings and set it up to auto connect. or open the app when you climb in to your 4runner.

My 2015 Nav system has been locking up a lot lately. I'll be cruising along listening to Satellite or Bluetooth music from my phone and it'll freeze. You can't turn it off or use any of the other display functions. In order for it to work I have to pull over and turn the vehicle off and reboot it. I'm taking it in to the dealer this afternoon, hopefully they can reinstall the software but if they have to replace the unit I'm ok with that too, I just want it to work like it's supposed to.

My 2015 Nav system has been locking up a lot lately. I'll be cruising along listening to Satellite or Bluetooth music from my phone and it'll freeze. You can't turn it off or use any of the other display functions. In order for it to work I have to pull over and turn the vehicle off and reboot it. I'm taking it in to the dealer this afternoon, hopefully they can reinstall the software but if they have to replace the unit I'm ok with that too, I just want it to work like it's supposed to.

Same thing has happened here twice now. Let me know what it comes down to.

I have the 2011 LE too and every now and then my phone will do that. Usually what works for me is to remove the phone all together and add it again. One question for you is do you have the phone added under phones or under audio devices. I found once I added it in both places the problem seem to stop. I have the LG G3 so not sure if this will help. I listen to music and podcasts a lot through my phone so having it added as a audio device is a necessity for me.

my apologies if I was unclear...
it's on the phone side. Android update causes it to screw up. The phone app basically patches it.

Mine is set up only as a phone device. I tried to set it up as audio too but it gave me an error message. I can't remember if I wiped and reconnected it on the audio side. I did wipe and reconnect it on the phone bluetooth connection. I also removed the battery out of my phone and wiped the 4runner out of the bluetooth connections then tried to reconnect it. It worked a couple times and then started screwing up.

The app has been the only thing that has allowed it to consistently connect. I have messed up forgot to open the app up first - got the error message... and then just tapped the app icon and it instantly patches it.

Hi Tejas,

I went through the 'EXACT' same thing a while back. The problem was that some portion of the 'Entune' O.S. (ver. 3.2.1) firmware had become corrupted (damaged); through normal usage. My fix... was to pull the 30A AMP 'Main audio system fuse' and leave it out for a 'minimum' circuit discharge period of four hours; it could be done in less time BUT, if you place the system back online prematurely you'll have to start the process all over again... 'from scratch'!

Note: I'd usually just leave the 30A constant power fuse pulled out overnight (for one night) to avoid any risk of an early power-up! I'd eventually have to have the entune O.S. ver. 3.2 uninstalled/reinstalled because it's ability to function was beginning to deteriorate exponentially e.g., Fwd and backwards (up/down) arrows on audio unresponsive, frozen touch screens & voice command function (unresponsive)! After the 'uninstall/install' at the dealership, things were just fine! ...Sounds like you're on the right track; let us know how it work out at the dealership!

The dealer reinstalled the software and no problems in the last 48 hours. I'll be convinced that it did the trick if I can go more than a week without the issue occurring again. I'll keep you guys posted.

15minutes with the 12v battery and/or short pin pulled should be enough to force the headunit to load up from the factory flash. Though it doesn't always work. Unfortunately there's no software update for the 2010 & 2011 headunits through TIS, it's only for the 2012+ Entune equipped 4Runners.
