It's been years since I posted here!
I have a 98 SR5 with 180k and the clutch has been slipping when I accelerate from a stop. I've done the timing belt and other maintenance items on the 4runner, so I feel pretty comfortable with this job but it's my first time doing a clutch and I want to make sure I'm installing the clutch disk correctly before I button everything back up.
I purchased the 1200 lb clutch kit from Marlin Crawler. Based on the notes on Marlin Crawler's site and the instructions in the FSM, the side of the clutch disk that is "raised" faces toward the flywheel and the other "flat" side faces toward the transmission.
When I pulled the old parts out, the raised side of the disk faced the flywheel, as shown below.

This is the other side of the clutch disk.... faces the transmission.

so, when I install the clutch disk it should go in like this, right?

I'm hoping someone can look at my photos and help me confirm which way the clutch disk should face. As I understand it, the clutch system will still operate if the disk is installed incorrectly, but it will accelerate the wear on the clutch disk. I'd like to make sure I install it correctly the first time so that I don't have to worry about dropping the transmission again for a loooooong time : )
