6112 / 5160 Combo with T13 springs - suggested setup

I have KDSS and put passenger on 6, drivers on 5...worked for me.

Don’t know about Limiteds, but Wheelers recommended the opposite for SR5s.

Does your 4runner over bump feels loose in the back? Idk maybe it's because of the wheeler t-13 coil but my feels too loose for comfort.

Did Bilstein change the 6112s? When I had them on my truck a couple of years ago...the 3rd setting was considered about 2-2.5". Now I see people maxing it out??

The new ones have 7 settings - but Bilstein may have simply re-scaled the height adjust-ability that the prior models had to further "dial-in" your desired ride height.

Confused

So I've read this thread as well as every other thread I could find on lifting and associated lean with KDSS. I have a stock, other than upgrading to KO2's in stock size, 2016 TE with KDSS and am looking to install 6112/5160 with the T13 springs sometime over the winter. Just measured my truck in the garage, with between 1/2 and 3/4 tank of gas, and my driver side sits 1/4 inch lower than the passenger side, both front and rear. My goal is to lift the rear approximately 1 1/2" and the front at least 2". I want some rake because I tow an Xventure XV-2 trailer off road on a regular basis all over Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and other western states. I currently have airbags installed to deal with the trailer weight, which have worked fantastic, and will probably install with the new springs as they aren't rated to handle much more weight than the stock springs. Anyway, I digress. Some posts have the 6112's at different settings to compensate for lean, but those posts aren't consistent, at least to my understanding, of which side is supposed to be compensated lower or higher. Other posts say have them on the same setting/"perch". Some posts have the OME or some other type of "shim" to deal with the lean issue. Some posts say the KDSS leans to the passenger side, but that's not how my truck currently sits. So, as you can see, for someone who is looking to do this in the not to distant future, it's a bit unclear of what, exactly, the proper setup should be. Maybe there isn't a correct setup as other posts I've read say each KDSS 4Runner reacts differently to a lift. So, given what I'm looking to do, any clear guidance on how I should move forward in the setup would be most appreciated!

No, I haven’t noticed that issue with mine. When do you notice the proble....speed bumps or in general?

I was worried about the same issues when looking for a lift...I almost went with a lift that provide adjustability via the threaded bodies to account for these variances.

I’m going to assume any lift kit may may wind up with a slight variance in lift height due to manufacturing tolerances and/or how the vehicle reacts due to the KDSS.

In the end, it seems it’s best to prepare for it and then tweak to meet your needs. Maybe I’m lucky, but didn’t encounter any noticeable lean in mine after the install pervthe settings I used. I am thinking about adding an OME trim packer to both rear springs though for a slight boost.

For KDSS set both spring perches at the same setting. I did and my 4Runner is dead level. Yes, only non KDSS 4Runners have to be set at different heights. I was in the same boat, not enough information about this set up.

Thanks. Yeah, some Kings that you could just easily tweak would be nice, but racing across the desert isn’t in my future, so the significant cost of Kings is not worth it for me.

Thank you for the information, that’s what I was looking for. From the diagrams I’ve seen the two inches of lift in the front I’m looking to get would have the perches set on 5. Hopefully that will get me 2-2.25” up front and the T13 springs will get me 1.5” in the back.

This is my plan as well, 5/5 6112 setting with KDSS and hoping for 2" of lift. If I have any lean I plan to do the resetting procedure by opening up the 2 valves described by onepremiere

Also plan on running a 1' cornfed spacer for now with 5100 in the rear and see how that performs. For right now it will be my wife's pavement pounder, but I can't leave well enough alone lol

Waiting the suspension to come in now, but apparently the 6112 are on backorder from Bilstein Germany. Suck's cause I was really hoping to install them over Christmas break.

Give Wheelers Off-Road a call or go through their website. They should have them in stock. They replying to my email inquiry within an hour when I was looking to buy my 6112s. Great customer service and they shipped them right away.

Over Speed bumps and potholes. Or could it be I need to buy a new set of bump stop for the rear of the new bilstein 5160.

Hmm...didn’t change out my bump stops, but don’t think that would have any impact.

After I installed my lift, I was trying to remember what it drove like before I put my lift on...had a hard time trying to remember. Can you compare against another just to verify there is a difference? The other obvious is double checking everything is tight...assume you have already done that.

I’m curious what the tongue weight of your trailer is, and how you liked the T13s when loaded and towing? I’ve got an off-road teardrop that’s 150 lbs on the tongue and I’m considering a T12/T13 spring with an air bag to account for the trailer and gear when camping. Do you feel the air bag is necessary?

Did you go with the 5100 in the rear and how is the ride?

I actually went with TRD Pro lift with 1” front toytec spacer (2” total over stock sr5/Trail) and 1” cornfed rear spacer. I’m completely happy with the look and ride

Ordered and waiting for my 6112/5160 combo for my 19 sr5 has 3rd row.. what rear spring was set on wheelers t13 but now considering dobinsons 505.. i assume they are close to the same spring rate? Def dont want to much rake forward. Im thinking of setting front around 6th notch or so. Any input??
