6cyl 4WD owners, how long for 4wd to engage??

It seems to take quite a while for my 4R to engage into 4H -after turning the knob...usually at least 5 seconds, but sometimes up to 10 or more.
Just curious if this is normal?

Drive to Neutral to Drive will lock on immediately.

Takes a sec the other way. No big deal.

Do you use this method at speed, and is it in any way more harmful than just waiting a few seconds for the system to engage?

Use the search function.. Many people have brought this up before. Yes, it can take a few seconds depending on the conditions (turning, accelerating, stopped, etc).
