7-19-08 Hungry Valley Trip

Some pics from a day trip back to Hungry Valley with Blair. I have some pictures of both of our trucks, but the other half are on his camera, since we weren't always able to get out of our own trucks. Here's what was on my camera....

Blair's truck:

This doesn't do this hill any justice whatsoever. Many failed at getting up it due to the angle, poor traction, loose sand, and 1-2foot deep ruts. Took an FJ cruiser 4-5 times to make it up, and we watched a Land Rover fail to make it past the first 10% of the hill over 5 times, and almost roll it. Hilarious. This is Blair taking it on. I don't think we took any pictures of me going up it.

Sweet pictures, and a very fun day. Glad I got to try some new stuff this time.

On a side note, I called Radio Shack, and apparently I have to wait until Monday to call when the manager is there, so we'll see how that pans out. I still think that's funny that it fell off though. What I did to fix it is slide one of my roof rack cross bars back about 5-6 inches, and put the mount inside of that so it has plenty of support now. It's pressed up firmly against it. I just need the fiberglass antenna part. :bash:

I'm even more stoked now to get those rock sliders & lift. I just can't decide btwn Cornfed & Toytech. I have a month and a half to get 'er done before the 4WD group goes on the next big outing up in the Sierras.

You should definitely join in next time, it was a really good time.

We have been three times in the past three weeks and are always looking for others to join in, last weekend Josh and I were joined by two other t4r.org members and had a great time (see the socal group subpage).

Both Josh and I have cornfed and I highly recommend them, the only bummer is how long they take to be made. I would order one soon if you want one by that trip a month and a half from now, painfully slow, I know.

We will let you know next time we are planning on going up there, it should be a few weeks though since I will be out of the country. Hopefully you will be able to make it!

Feel free to come with us whenever, we are actually heading up there very often now and always enjoy others joining in.

As for those flags (whips/safety flags) you usually don't see them in Gorman, but the are necessary when driving in dunes and I have also seen people using them when out in Mojave.

And yes, Josh and I use cb's. We both have the same setup with a handheld cb and a magnetic roof mount. It works great and can be removed easily. We have also used those little FPS radios in the past too which also do the job fine.

Awesome. V8 has more power than V6. I have V6 4WD and I couldn't make it to the steps. I gave up after 4 times that I went there.

That looks awesome! I can't keep all the lifts straight; is Will's Revtec a spacer lift? It looks like his articulates better. I think Josh still has the 3/2 spacer lift.

Maybe it's the angle of the shot and the contrast of the fender well against the lighter body on Will's T4R.

It says it in all of our signatures. Will's is a 3" Revtek, mine is a 3/2 Cornfed, and Blair's is a 2/1 Cornfed.

How much longer before you upgrade your lift? (as mentioned in your sig, hahaha) I saw you've been inquiring at 120 but I haven't read through it yet.

Haven't decided when I want to make the plunge yet. I am eventually going to put sliders and a bumper on as well, but I'm not a fan of waiting 8 weeks for a set of sliders to be made from Shrockworks. I like instant gratification. I am still figuring out the specifics of what I want to do with the lift.

Got it. I read your post at 120. Have you considered the OME with 885's and a Toytec 3/4" or Cornfed 1"? It seems to me like that may give you the full 3" (not 2.5" as some report). Another possibility might be the 885's and the ride height adjustable Ranchos or Bilsteins. I think you're 'allowed' to use the stock height or lowest lift with longer springs. I also am of the belief that the middle and max lift settings are off limits when longer springs such as the 885s are implemented. Without a bumper the 886's might be as tight as your current 3/2.

I had some OME on my old Troopy, great stuff. You've got a beautiful rig and it'll be sweet whatever you do...
