Hey guys. I'm looking to buy another runner but I'm just getting into the builds and everything. The one I am looking at supposedly already has over $10k into it. I just want to see what a little more educated mind thinks about it. Is it a good deal? Has 150,000 total miles.

If I could figure out how to post a damn picture I would.

But this is what it has into it:

1985 Toyota 4runner Moab ready

Rebuilt engine, 13,000 miles since rebuild
Dual transfer cases using Marlin Crawler adapter
CV rear driveshaft from GRS Drivelines
Long-slip front driveshaft from High Angle Driveline
5.29 Yukon gears, Detroit Locker in rear axle
5.29 Yukon gears, Lock-Right locker, Longfield birfields in front axle, with diff armor
Crossover steering with IFS steering box
Hydraulic assist power steering
Ladder-style traction bars front and rear
Budbuilt low-profile transfer case crossmember, uses both transfer case mounts and includes skidplate
All-Pro lift springs – 4” front, 3” rear
Long-travel Bilstein 5125 shocks on extended mounts front and rear
Tubular rear bumper with corner protection and receiver-style tow point
Tubular rocker panel protectors
Tubular front bumper with D-ring attachments, winch mount, and two Hella 500 lights
Champion 8000 lb winch
17” Pro Comp Steel Wheels
35 x 12.50 Maxxis Trepador radial tires
One 35” Trepador as a spare matching wheel
Quick-release mudflaps
Alpine Stereo with iPod and aux hook ups
Remote 6x9 speakers great for putting out on the roof for camp tunes

Not looking for trades

Serious inquiries only please

Has some rock rash on the body

This is a fantastic out of the box ready to roll rockcrawler, save money by buying a prebuilt crawler that was built right.

That is his add. What are your thoughts??

... I disagree. As I said before I do not know how to post pictures. Thank you for a worthless post though.

you don't have to be mean dude. Missed that one line. Does he have paperwork for the engine rebuild? what engine? does he have proof of work and when it was done? has it been maintained? Why is he selling?

oh and as for pictures that's why there's a new person thread genius, you just attach the file of the saved picture.

No, he's right. We can't help you evaluate what condition the truck might be without pics.

Having said that, you're looking at this 4Runner, and it's a steal at $4500. I almost bought that truck myself when the original owner was selling it, and I thought seriously about it again when the current owner put it back up for sale. I know the guy that built that truck, and he's an excellent fabricator and builder. I'm going to be sad if you buy it, because the guy who is selling it wants to get a Jeep, but to answer your question... yes, if you're looking for a truck that's already built, that's a very very good deal.

Ok here we go. Thanks Silentyoda.

KidV knows his stuff better than I do, and personally knows the guy that built it and the reason for the current owner for selling.

that being said, I agree with him, it's an absolute steal!

You could start with a FREE IFS 4Runner, remove the IFS, buy and instal an IFS ellimiator kit with xover steer etc..., solid axle, springs, marlin adaptor, bud skid, longfields and tires, and it would probably cost more than 4500$, in a card board box, still needing to be installed.

It's a good deal for a rig with that much time and money invested in it. It has its own reputation as a good rig that wheels excellently.

If I was interested in a built first gen for $4500, that's the one i'd take.

No I went and looked at it yesterday and it just isn't what I'm looking for. It really has 222000 miles. I forgot to ask about the rebuild but the engine is noisy and has a click that sounds like a loose valve but he said he had the valves adjusted and it still sounds like that. It seems to shift pretty hard too. I'm looking for something with low original miles I don't need a crazy crawler. It is sweet if you want a pre-built crawler

I paid 500.00 for my 86 and have 4500 in it now and it still has ifs and used tires and rims. stock auto trans and transfer case. and thats for parts only. I live in fl so not too many rocks to crawl but plenty of mud. I would not sell mine for 4500. mine is also rust and dent free, but if you are rock crawling its gonna get dents. also the valves are very hard to get just right on these motors. it takes me a couple tries every time
