88 fuel pump

I thought I was gonna have to replace my fuel pump in my 88. After I got it out I noticed one of the wires was broken on the inside. The pump works I just need to fix the broken wire. Should I replace the pump or just fix the wire??? It took me all of 10 minutes to get it out. Picture below..

That is called, I believe, the fuel sending unit. I suggest replacing that AND the pump.

Your sending unit looks rusty.. why keep it any longer. You have it out, replace it and not worry.

Its not rusty at all. The fuel pump is on the bottom of this unit..

Repair it. You'll spend a bunch of money for no reason. Wires are easy.

If you are low on $, duct tape it, then hope it holds out.

But...you got it out, and its a 23 yr old electrical unit, spend the $150
bucks and never think about it again.

the plug on the unit in the picture above.. is it supposed to have 12 volts going to it?

yes 12 volts + going in for pump. solder it. dont duct tape it. any tape will disovle in gasoline and clog your fuel system.

It all depends on what you want to deal with later, If you have the $$$ then replace or run til it dies.

I soldered the wire back and installed the OE pump back in. Well that still did not fix my problem. I have been having all sorts of electrical problems and someone told me to check my grounds. So I started looking around and the I found the damn EFI fuse half way plugged in. Popped that bad boy in there and we were off.

I think I may have fixed the sputtering I would have some mornings with the broken wire..

Alright. But those tubes look rusty. That section of the tank likes to hold water and I had two separate 4runners develop fuel links in that same area.

Thats why I suggested replace now, while out.

they were dirty.. I promise they were not rusty. When I had to replace the pump on my 86 MKII supra it was like you said rusty as hell!!
