8yr/75k Platinum EW for my TEP

I agree with [MENTION=96008]Engineer[/MENTION] My last 4Runner had 261K miles on it when I sold it. Anything can break, including a Toyota. But the odds are in our favor that it won't. Keep your $1,300.

They can go lower than that. I forgot the exact number, but I paid about $1000 for the platinum 8 year / 100,000 miles warranty.

There was a thread with a list of all the prices for different year/mile coverage.

It is a good price but I know for sure they can go lower like the guy above me said. I skipped on the warranty only for the the reason being that I work in service and all I will need to pay is parts if and when something happens (lets hope it doesn't).

Just to give you an idea of reliability we have a regular customer that comes in with his 4th gen that just rolled over 480k

The dealer threw in the 10 year, 100k warranty for us. Also gave us a book of vouchers that cover all scheduled service/maintenance for 100k that work at any Toyota dealership.

so short answer, don't get it. especially for $1300

75K will never be 8 years unless your Runner spends a lot of time in the garage so you are really looking at a 5yr warranty. I had a VW go 5 years and 75k without a hiccup and these are Toyotas! Save your money.

Thanks for the feedback and for years I thought along the same lines.....never considered an EW and I have an 07 4th gen that I'd never consider it for. Even when we bought my wife's 07 Pilot I never considered it and the dealer even went so far as to NOT recommend it given the confidence in reliability. Both held true with never a single repair for either of them after all these years.

However.....that was a generation ago.... after getting the '16 and seeing all the bells and whistles with the KDSS, Entune, cameras, screens, crawl control, asac, etc. I'm starting to think it might make sense due to the anticipated repair costs for even one of these items. I keep cars/trucks a long time as I expect I will this one. Just seems like there's a lot more expensive stuff that can go wrong in these new trucks over 8 yrs than there was 10 yrs ago. Thus the reason for seriously considering the EW.

Anyone out there that can speak to any repair experiences with the 14's-16's?

take the 1300, invest it in a stock or ETF and let it sit there for as long as you have the vehicle, if a major repair comes up, withdraw the money and pay for it

when nothing goes wrong, take a vacation.

Warranty is a peace of mind. If it's worth it to you, get it. My warranty has more than paid for itself. For example, the lift gate struts busted and replaced, foggy headlamps. etc...

I bought my extended warranty for 1500 bucks. 8 year, 125k miles.

So you can gauge from there what your getting charged.

They charge points, just like on mortgage. My price was with one point. Same one can be sold for twice as much, easily.

I bought an extended warranty too. Paid around $1000 for the 125k miles one, don't remember how many years because I knew that 125k miles would be around 3 years driving for me.

I bought it for the peace of mind and because my last vehicle had around $6000 worth of repairs paid by the extended warranty before it expired at 100k miles. That was a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland.

However this 2012 4Runner only had about $350 worth of repairs paid by the extended warranty before it expired at 125k miles. It was for the drivers door electric lock that failed at about 120k miles.

Therefore my conclusion is yes buy the warranty for a Jeep, don't bother for a Toyota. In fact I did not buy an extended warranty for the wife's 2012 Avalon and so far so good at 50k on the Avalon.

Actually, disregard I see you have a '10. I'm one who believes there are likely more issues (not that you've had many) with a truck that had just undergone a major gen change which yours did. Don't know if there may be some stats to back this up though.
